Roy Bruce Holman died Friday February 25th 2011 at home in Oklahoma City. He was born November 28, 1940 in Indianapolis, IN to John Louis ("J.L.") and Grace Holman. After moving to Oklahoma, he attended Bethany Elementary School and graduated from Putnam City High School in 1959, maintaining a close bond with many of his classmates for the rest of his life. He earned his MBA from the University of Arkansas in 1965. After working as a bank examiner, he enjoyed a long career in banking, beginning in 1971 at Community Bank in Warr Acres, OK, until 1997, and then at All-America Bank in Oklahoma City and Mustang. He was valued by his employers, coworkers and customers as an outstanding banker, trusted counselor and gentle friend. He cherished the communities in which he worked and the people who lived in them, and deeply enjoyed his involvement in their lives. Bruces true calling was as a servant of Jesus Christ, and he considered his works in that service to be his first duty and greatest joy. He was a member of the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn, and helped establish the Newcastle, OK assembly in 1980. As an ordained elder since 1985, he was a loving shepherd and tireless servant of the church. His life was devoted to cheerful fellowship with his brethren, quiet counseling of those in need of guidance, and gentle comforting of the sick and grieving. He was a kind, patient father of his own children and of many others. Throughout his life, professionally, personally and spiritually, Bruce was a wise and kind lender, giving of himself fully to the service of others and of his God. He was preceded in death by his father J.L. and by his sister Linda Myers. He is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, April; mother, Grace Holman; sister, Rita Price; daughter, Holly Holman, all of Oklahoma City; sons, Jeff and Ben of Tulsa, OK, and their wives Nora and Elizabeth; four grandsons, Sam, Henry, George, and Joshua Louis; and granddaughter, Marlowe.
Services will be Thursday, March 3, 10:00 a.m. at Church of the First Born in Newcastle, OK. Interment will be in Parkland Cemetery, Parkland, Oklahoma.
