Obituary

Roy was born to Joseph and Flossie (Gardenhire) Franklin in Dodge City, Kansas, with a twin brother named Ray. The family lived in Dodge City until age 12. They lived in Kingsdown, Kansas for a year and then moved to Ford, Kansas. Roy lived in Ford until graduating from Ford High School. He enrolled in Bethany-Peniel College in the fall of 1947. In July, 1948, he joined the Army. He served in Japan and Korea. While in college, he met his beloved wife, Ruth, who waited for him until he returned home in November, 1951. They were married on January 1, 1952. He returned to college in 1952 and graduated in 1955. They moved to Pueblo, Colorado, where he taught for 17 years and was an elementary principal for 20 years. They moved back to Oklahoma City in 2002. Roy and Ruth attended Bethany First Church of the Nazarene. Roy was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ruth, on March 4, 2013. After Ruth passed away and Roy moved to Edmond, he actively attended Edmond First Church of the Nazarene. Roy was the last survivor of the five brothers: Ralph, Karl, Ray and Forrest. Roy and Ruths children are Rhonda Joy Fisher (Don), Roy Kendall (Denise), Alan Merrill (Marni), and David Eugene (Lynsi). They have five granddaughters, Lisa Ann Thompson (Dusty), Leslie Ann, Leah Kate, Ragan Brooke and Addisyn Grace. The three grandsons are Joshua Andrew (Elizabeth), Brady Aaron (Ann), and Trevor Wade, and great-grandsons are Christian, Corban, and Cylan Thompson. Viewing will be Tuesday, July 5, 9am-9pm, with the family present from 5-7:00pm at Mercer-Adams. Funeral service will be at Edmond First Church of the Nazarene on Wednesday, July 6 at 10:00am with interment in Memorial Park Cemetery.
