Roy Jesse Cummings passed away peacefully on November 4, 2024, at age 105. Roy was born on February 11, 1919, to Lee Roy and Eda Cummings in Akron, CO. His parents homesteaded in Akron, where he grew up as a farm boy. Roy married Neva Hughes on October 17, 1946. Survivors include his daughter, Peggy, husband, Hank, granddaughter, Renee Colvert, grandson Brian Colvert, wife, Tiffany, and great-grandson, Miles; daughter, Nancy Churchill, husband, Rick, granddaughter, Abbie Conway, husband, Matt, and great-grandchildren, Brendan, Kelsey, and Joshua. Roy is also survived by 3 nieces, Judy Terrel, Margaret Beaver, and Mary Chipley.
Roy worked his way through college, graduating with a B. A. Degree from Colorado State College of Education in Greeley, CO. He also took courses at the Univ. of Colorado Extension Center in Denver and earned a Master of Education degree from West Texas State University in Canyon, TX.
Roy began his career in Crowley, CO as a high school science teacher. In December, 1941, plans changed. Roy had a 33-year career in Federal Service that reached around the globe. He was an Education Specialist and Manager of Federal Training Programs for the US Government.
Roy's military service included instructing B-29 flight engineers in power plant operation at Amarillo AFB. He served during World War II in the Philippines and Okinawa as Chief Airworthiness Inspector of the 6th Troop Carrier Squadron of C-46 cargo planes.
Roy enjoyed his church, Olivet Baptist, and many hobbies including bowling, golf, and photography.
Roy and his wife, Neva, enjoyed traveling to Texas in winter, Colorado in summer, and cruising to Alaska, the Caribbean, the Panama Canal, and Hawaii. Roy has now taken his last trip, the one to be with the Lord.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, November 26, 10:00am at Mercer-Adams Chapel. Viewing will begin at 9:30am prior to the service.
