Obituary

This is my story Roy was born April 3, 1938 in Dotsero, Colorado, and grew up mostly in Pueblo, Colorado. While attending Colorado Springs Bible College he met and married Carol Whetstone, whom he adored and cherished for over 58 years. He retired in October, 2015 and died at home on January 25, 2016. He was preceded in death by parents, Roy and Bea Berkley and sister, Trilma Kelley. He is survived by his wife, Carol; sisters, Opal Baldwin, Lola Hess, and JoAnn Berkley; daughter, Linda Schubert; son, Ron and his wife Lynette; grandchildren, Chelsea Berkley, Jacob Schubert and his wife Taylor and their son Weston, Albany Cooper and her husband Robert, and Jennifer Schubert. This is my song Roy felt a call to ministry as a young man. In the 1950s-70s he sang with the Jubilee Quartet, the Sooner State Quartet, the Midstates Quartet, and the Calvary Trio. He served as minister of music in Tyler, Texas, and was an active layman for many years at Calvary Church of the Nazarene in Bethany, Oklahoma. He was ordained as an elder in the Church of the Nazarene in 1976, graduated from Bethany Nazarene College in 1979, then got his Masters from BNC in 1982. From 1975 on, he pastored Nazarene and Wesleyan churches in Oklahoma, Colorado, Kansas, Arkansas, and Louisiana, and taught briefly at Korea Nazarene University and Caribbean Nazarene Theological College. Praising my Savior Roy passionately loved Jesus. He never tired of talking about Him. He poured his life into helping others know Him and understand and live His Word. Every conversation wound up being about God. He read and studied extensively, but he was a man of one Book. He never got over the fact that Jesus died for his sin, the Father adopted him as His child, and the Spirit cleansed and filled him. And he wanted the same for you. All the day long Roy has finished the race. He has heard his Master say, "Well done, good and faithful servant." He is no longer accident-prone, he is free of pain, his joints are titanium-free, his body is strong, his mind is clear, and his voice has joined the everlasting "Holy! Holy! Holy!" He is face to face with his Savior, and his joy will never end.In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Nazarene Compassionate Ministries at ncm.org Memorial Service Tuesday, February 2, 2016 04:00 PM Calvary Church of the Nazarene 3100 N.
