Ross Albert Moran died peacefully on May 15, 2014. He was born July 6, 1927, in Wichita, Kan., to James A. and Margaret (Orndorff) Moran. He grew up in Wichita during the Great Depression, and was very close to his younger brothers, Harold and Donny. At the breakout of World War II, he was afraid his father would be drafted, but turning 18 near the war's end, Ross was the one who served. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving from 1945-1946, assisting transport soldiers back home from the Pacific Theater at war's conclusion. He married Eleanor Coplin in 1946, and together they had three children: Linda, Randy and Susan; relocating to Oklahoma City in 1960. After his first marriage ended, he married Jean Morgan in 1968. Jean was the love of Ross' life, and through this marriage he also gained her two daughters, Marsha and Karen. Ross spent his entire professional career working for OTASCO; he began mounting tires at a store in Wichita at age 15 and retiring from the company as a Tulsa-based regional manager in 1986. He and Jean built their dream home on Lake Keystone, and loved hosting friends and family there, returning to Oklahoma City to be near family after his retirement. A gifted, self-taught pianist, his life was filled with music, love and laughter. His upbringing also brought resilience during tough times - continuing to live fully and well despite health challenges and the terrible loss of his four daughters. With his zest for life, entertaining and coast-to-coast travel in his motorhome, he was a bright light for his large, extended family. He is remembered for his wit, jokes, an amazing ear for music, lake vacations with his grandkids in his motorhome, his vivid memory for details, sharp organizational skills and his all-day holiday football watching marathons with his family. His annual Christmas Eve party, during which family members sang carols and took turns playing handbells under his direction, was a family tradition for decades. Ross was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Don, and his four daughters: Linda Stevens, Susan Morgan, Marsha Brown and Karen Folsom. He is survived by his wife Jean; his brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Harriett Moran; his son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Diann Moran; nine grandchildren: Brooke Berry, Eric Rasmussen, Lori Rasmussen-Miller, Trey Morgan, Jeremy Helm, Bo Moran, Morgan Helm, Mandy Morgan and John-Michael Folsom; as well as 17 great-grandchildren and his beloved terrier, Roxi. Viewing will be Monday, May 19 from 10am - 9pm at Mercer-Adams Funeral Service. Services will be held at 10am, Tuesday, May 20, at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene.
