Rose J. Berg, a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on Monday, April 18, 2011 in Oklahoma City at age 81. Rose was born May 30, 1929, in St. Hedwig, TX. She was married to her first husband, Darrell L. Morningstar, in 1952 and her second husband, Hatto M. Berg, in 1979. Rose was a resident of New Braunfels, TX for 26 years and relocated to Oklahoma in 2005 to live with her daughter, Patricia. Rose was valedictorian of her high school in St. Hedwig. She worked at Frontier Enterprises in San Antonio for 11 years starting in 1965 where she was also a member and officer in the National Association of Executive Secretaries. For many years Rose and Hatto owned a Christmas tree farm in New Braunfels and were active in several professional Christmas tree farm organizations. In New Braunfels, Rose was a member of Hermann Sons, The Garden Club, and the Goodwin Extension Homemakers. She held the positions of President, Vice-President, Treasurer and Secretary in these organizations. Rose was a long time member of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in New Braunfels. Rose loved to travel, with her most memorable trips being to Spain in 1980 to visit her daughter and Uganda in 2003 to visit her daughter and grandchildren, as well as trips to Brazil and Alaska with Hatto. She was an active volunteer for various charitable organizations.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Darrell, in 1976, and her second husband, Hatto, in 1998; her mother and father, Louise and Peter Wyrwich; and her sister, Julie Dudek. Rose is survived by her sons, Michael Morningstar and wife Patti and Stephen Morningstar and wife Marybeth; daughter, Patricia Herskowitz and husband Thomas; siblings, Virginia Warner, John Wyrwich and Walter Wyrwich; brother-in-law, Robert Dudek; 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Rosary service will be Tuesday, April 26, 7:00 PM at the Zoeller Funeral Home, 615 Landa, New Braunfels, TX. Funeral service will be Wednesday, April 27, 10:00 AM at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in New Braunfels, TX. There will be a lunch for family and friends following the service.
