Rosalee Murphy, beloved wife, mother, and Granny passed away Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at the age of 93. She was born October 16, 1923, to Jesse Albert and Margaret (Maggie) Anna Polk Wininger in Tyro, Arkansas. Early in her youth the family moved to Monticello, Arkansas where she grew up and graduated from high school in 1942. Later that year, she and Patrick Lee Murphy, a Missionary Baptist minister from Crossett, Arkansas met at a church service. On that date their journey together began and they were married October 31, 1942. Rosalee and Pat enrolled in Missionary Baptist Seminary in Little Rock, Arkansas where they attended four years and she received her degree. She also accompanied Pat as he pastored three churches on the weekends during WWII. In 1946, they moved to Paris, Arkansas in pastoral work where their daughter, Emma Lee was born. In 1950, Rosalee and Pat moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma as pastor and wife of Highland Missionary Baptist Church for the next 35 years. Rosalee enjoyed playing the piano as well as the organ for church services. Rosalee was a talented teacher of toddler and teenage classes and ladies groups. She held the offices of president and secretary of national, state and local auxiliaries. Rosalee had a green thumb and took pride in the beautiful flowers that she grew around their home and the fruits and vegetables harvested from their garden. She was also a talented seamstress and enjoyed sewing for her family. Rosalee especially enjoyed traveling and sightseeing excursions.
