Rosa Rhoda Helm Garrett was born in Ft. Towson, OK, on March 10, 1909 to Minnie and James Helm. They lived in many different towns in Oklahoma until settling in Shawnee, OK. Rosa (Grandma) went to Heaven on July 16, 2011 at the age of 102. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Virgil V. Garrett, all of her brothers and sisters, as well as all but one of her sisters-in law. She was the oldest of six children: Warren, James, Ruby, Nadine, and an infant brother. She is survived by daughter Mary Lou Harbour & husband Paul of Kingman, Arizona, daughter Ruth Henson & husband Calvin Keith of OKC; sister-in-law Maxine Helm of Garland, Texas; as well as grandchildren Diana Sturgeon, Lori Barrios, Larry Lynn, Vincent Lynn, Dennis Kevin Lynn, Rachel Henson Anderson, Zachary Henson, and many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces & nephews, including Marven Carter of California, Glenn & Bobby Helm of Texas. Rosa worked until around the age of 90, most notably at the IRS in OKC as a comptometer operator. After retiring from the IRS she still kept busy, mostly working various jobs at The Manor Westminster Presbyterian Retirement Home, including night manager, bookkeeper, and housekeeper, as well as volunteering at St. Anthony Hospital, Cub Scouts, Church & Sunday School, Brownies and Girl Scouts. She was still doing laundry and ironing for people at The Manor at age 90. Grandma was generous with her family, and very loyal to Crown Heights Baptist Church and kept sending her tithe years after no longer being able to attend. Mom kept walking around her neighborhood until she was in her 90s. She was never ill and just kept on going until the last couple of years. Rosa, Rose, Mom, Grandma was very much loved and will be sorely missed! The memorial service for Grandma is Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at 2:00pm at Mercer-Adams Chapel, 3925 N. Asbury, Bethany, OK.
