Ronald "Ron" Rupert
Swadley
Jul 21, 1942 — Oct 20, 2023
Ronald Rupert Swadley passed away peacefully on October 20, 2023, at his home in Northwest Oklahoma City. A memorial service will be held at Victory Church, 4300 N MacArthur Blvd, Warr Acres, OK, on Wednesday, October 25th at 10:00am. Visitation with the family will be 5:00pm-8:00pm, Tuesday, October 24th at Mercer Adams Funeral Service, 3925 N. Asbury Ave., Bethany, OK.
Ron was born on July 21, 1942, in Wichita Falls, TX to Rupert and Leona Swadley. He graduated from Wichita Falls High School and then went on to earn a degree from Abilene Christian University. Due to their fathers working together, Ron met the love of his life Georgia Bess Faircloth in Abilene, TX and took her on a date. Then she made him wait a full year before she would go on a second date with him. That second date worked out because they married December 26, 1964. Ron began working for Texas Employers Casualty Insurance in 1965 as an insurance adjuster and retired in 2005. Susan was born in 1966 and Brent followed in 1970.
Due to Ron's job, the family often moved, and they have lived all over Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. Even while Ron was working, he was always doing ministry. In 1971 he started a Bus Ministry in Tulsa, OK that ran until 1983. Through that bus ministry he touched thousands of lives. He and Georgia often took children into their home, sometimes for years at a time. Their home often seemed like a revolving door for helping raise children from other homes. Ron was a frequent speaker at Soul Winning Workshops in Oklahoma, and he also enjoyed officiating weddings for friends and family.
In 1998 Ron helped his son Brent Swadley start Swadley's BBQ. Since he was always thinking about how to minister to people, he wanted the restaurant to be a ministry disguised as a restaurant. Up until the weeks before passing, Ron could be found in one of the restaurants asking people how the food was, how they were doing personally, and asking if they needed prayer for anything. Ron was bold in his faith and was never shy about sharing his belief in Jesus Christ as his savior.
Those that know Ron would describe him in many ways; words at the top of the list would be: giving, hospitable, fun, loving and welcoming. Ron never met a stranger, and he would give you his last dollar if you needed it. He loved to have lively discussions about business, theology, the love of God and the importance of family. He also loved the local businessman—you could often find Ron at a just opened restaurant or at a farmers' market or flea market. He wanted to help those who were just getting into business, and he was glad to not just offer encouragement, but he also would buy what they were selling.
Ron is preceded in death by both parents, daughter Susan Swadley, and sister Bonnie Gail Swadley. He is survived by his wife of 58 years Georgia Swadley, son Brent Swadley and wife Melanie, and their children; grandson Koltan Swadley and wife Peyton, grandson Keaton Swadley and wife Ashlyn, granddaughter Kailyn Swadley, and by his daughter Jamie Morrison and husband Darrel Morrison, and their children; Brandy Harris and husband Drew and their children Zach and Kyleigh, Courtney Rochon and husband Rex and their children Tanner, Morgen, Adrienne and Tyler, Chad Morrison and wife Lundy and their children Bailey and Lilly, and Cassie Douglas and husband Tony and their children Tanner and Kenzi, and their other chosen children.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Beulah Mountain Christian Academy, 2995 Beulah Heights Rd, Whitley City, Kentucky 42653.
