Obituary

Ronald Gene Smith passed away peacefully on November 29, 2015 after a valiant battle with cancer. Ron was born in Hobart, OK to Evalyn and Calvan Smith on January 13, 1941, where he spent his early years helping his parents in their laundry business. The family moved to Bethany, OK where Ron attended Putnam City and Bethany schools. Ron graduated from Bethany High School, attended the University of Oklahoma and graduated from CSUN in California. He moved to California so he could marry the love of his life, Carrol Ann. They recently celebrated 53 years of marriage. Ron is survived by his wife, Carrol; his mother, Evalyn Smith; daughter, Lisa Foerster & husband Stan; son, Scott Smith & wife Melinda; grandchildren, Kailee and Harrison Foerster, and Sydney and Jett Smith; his sisters, Rose Renner & husband Robert, and Susie Mattern & husband Steve; many nieces and nephews and a multitude of friends. Rons father, Calvan and his brother, Bill predeceased him. Ron began working for TG&Y at the age of 15, working for them for 26 years and then joined an advertising firm and moved to Chicago for several years. After having his own greeting card and gift shop business, he joined Wal-Mart and retired after 21 years. Ron and Carrol moved to Austin to be near their children and grandchildren. Ron always said he was the happiest he ever was in retirement. A celebration of Rons life will be Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 10:00am at Mercer-Adams Chapel, 3925 N. Asbury, Bethany, OK 73008.
