Obituary

Ronald William Leaver, 86, of Bethany, Oklahoma went to be with the Lord on June 23, 2023. Ronald was born in Doylestown, Ohio on December 25, 1936 to Melvin and Edith Leaver. He graduated high school from Canal Fulton in 1955 and later received his Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Ohio University in 1960. Ronald was commissioned as a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force and soon met the love of his life Joan Schwartz from San Angelo, Texas. The two were married on September 29, 1961. The brave newlyweds' first few years were spent on assignment in Rawalpindi, Pakistan where their daughter Christine Renae was born. In 1964, Ronald and family moved to Washington D.C, where he worked for the U.S. government, completed a Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering from George Washington University and welcomed their 1st son Ronald Gregory. In the late 1960s, the family moved to Canton, Ohio where their 3rd child Brian Kyle was born and Ronald began his civilian career in Engineering with Firestone. After a work transfer in 1975, the family moved to Bethany, Oklahoma where the couple joined the St. Charles Borromeo Church, raised their children and have lived for over 47 years. Ronald, often referred to affectionately as Big Ron or Handy Ron, was an original DIY guy and one could always find him fixing or repairing something around the house. He was an avid painter, played the guitar, enjoyed sports and was especially fond of golf. Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Edith; and brother, Gary. He is survived by his wife, Joan; children Chris, Greg, Brian and their spouses Roger, Sara and Mary respectively; four grandchildren, Lauren, Chase, John and Alex; he also leaves behind several nieces and nephews; along with sisters-in-law, Cathy Schwartz and Marilyn Harris and her husband Rod of San Angelo, Texas. Ronald was a brilliant man, loving and thoughtful husband and amazing father and grandfather. He will be deeply missed but we take great comfort in knowing he rests in Gods glory and is now embraced by loved ones that went before him.
