Born to Kenneth Hartwell Gary and Lila Faye Pennington, Ronald Gene Gary, born October 26, 1943, went home December 13th, 2020.
Born in Capitol Hill, the family moved to Pioneer St. and then 6501 NW 16th St. in Bethany, a home his father built.
They attended 10th Street Baptist Church and Ronnie went to Putnam City High School where the Gary boys made their name in sports. Ronnie excelled in football and basketball, graduating in 1961.
He married Josephine Kay Thurston in 1959, the same year their son, Ron, Jr. was born.
Following in his Fathers footsteps, and his Fathers before him, he joined the bricklayers union in the early 60s. He became a highly sought after artistic stone mason, working in Long Island, Colorado, Alabama and Memphis, as well as working on the homes of Bob Stoops and Stan Clark.
An avid drag racer and life long gear head, Ronnie opened Performance Sales Automotive in 1970. Greatly influenced by Don and Cody Parr, they became mentors in what he would call the favorite time in his life. He set many national super stock records with his 1957 Corvette. His cars were his cars and you just had to be ok with that.
A weightlifter all his life, he competed in and won the Sooner State Games in the Senior Division in the 90s.
He loved the babies and they loved him too. You would often find one in his arms. He taught them to play basketball, he teased them, but most of all, he spoke their language.
He loved to travel and could leave at a moments notice but he wanted to go by car, of course.
He loved, he lived life the way he wanted and always said he had no regrets, he wouldnt change a thing.
Ronnie was preceded in death by Jo K Gary; his infant son, Donald; sister, Verla; and parents, Kenneth and Lila Gary. He is survived by his son, Little Ronnie (Deborah) of Edmond; grandson, Clint (April); great-granddaughter, Gianna and great-grandson, Jax of Mustang; brother, Billy Kenneth Gary of Waukegan, IL; and his many nieces, nephews and cousins. All of these he loved and touched deeply.
