Obituary

Roger Eugene Griggs, preferably known as Gene R. Griggs to all of his friends and family, was born to parents Norma and Burl Griggs on February 20, 1951 in Beaver, OK. Gene's family moved to the Oklahoma City area where he would attend school at Franklin Kaiser Elementary, followed by junior high at Taft Middle School, and later graduated from Northwest Classen High School with the class of 1969. Gene fostered a love for the outdoors from an early age which not only his father helped to cultivate, but so did his uncles, and some of his teachers as well.

He began dating his childhood friend and love of his life, Diana Drouot, after moving 2 houses down and they were married shortly after her high school graduation on January 31, 1976. Gene was a dedicated outdoorsman, fiercely committed to his hunting and fishing and would bring Diana on many of these trips to share in his passion. Gene and Diana would have a 29 year relationship and from this union, their only child, Ginger Michelle Griggs would be born on December 14, 1981.Gene would spend many years of that relationship caring for Diana, who later was diagnosed with multiple illnesses, a brain tumor and Multiple Sclerosis being the worst. He would find solace in his favorite activities, always going back to hunting and fishing and enjoying the silent peace the great outdoors could offer.

Gene was a fabricator welder by trade but could fix anything you put in front of him. He enjoyed spending his weekends helping his friends complete projects in the garage and was always helping someone with something.

Gene's first granddaughter, Aunna Magill, was born on October 7, 2004 and while Ginger was pregnant with his second, the unthinkable happened and Gene's wife, Diana passed away from complications to her illness on November 13, 2005. Two weeks later on Nov 27, 2005 Jazzlynn Magill was born. Gene would become a grandpa once more when his only grandson, Brayden Brown, was born on March 20, 2010. Gene continued to avidly hunt and fish, as well as weld and work his entire life until the day he passed on November 1, 2023.

Gene was preceded in death by his father, Burl Griggs; his mother, Norma Griggs; and his wife, Diana Griggs as well as other uncles, aunts, and cousins.

Gene leaves behind his only child, Ginger Michelle Griggs-Magill and her finance,Tony Little; and grandchildren, Aunna Magill, Jazzlynn Magill, and Brayden Brown. He is also survived by his brother, Richard L. Griggs of Jennings, FL; and sister, Ramona Griggs of Yukon, OK as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
