Obituary

Roger Allen Chapman, 79, passed away Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at the Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, Washington, after a long battle with cancer, while returning from a family reunion cruise to Alaska. He leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Madalynne (Holt) Chapman; his daughters, Michelle Chapman-Thurber and Marienne Chapman; his sister, Karen (Chapman) Humble; and two grandsons, Aidan and Colin Thurber. Roger graduated from Oklahoma University in June 1963 with a Masters in Aerospace Engineering. He was a member of the Delta Upsilon fraternity at OU and made many friends there that he kept in touch with for the rest of his life. In 1971, he graduated from Stanford Business School with another Masters Degree, later setting up his own specialized sheet metal company in Fremont, growing it to 150 employees. Roger loved golf and football (especially OU and Stanford), and was especially fond of the Golden State Warriors. Another great passion was traveling, and Roger had a special fondness for Hawaii. Twice a year, he and Madalynne--and sometimes the rest of the family--went to Hawaii, enjoying the sun, surf, and sand (and golf courses!). Roger and Madalynne went on many adventures around the world, usually via a cruise ship, visiting Tahiti, Bora Bora, Russia, continental Europe, Mexico, and the British Isles. Roger was also an avid delver into the genealogy of the Chapman family, spending many hours researching on the computer and beyond. He made trips to graveyards and towns all over the Midwest, discovering family tombstones and spending quality time researching birth, death, and census records in dusty county archives. Services will be at 10:00am Friday, September 6 at Mercer-Adams Chapel with interment in Memorial Park Cemetery. Funeral Service Mercer-Adams Chapel Friday, September 06, 2019 10:00 AM 3925 N.
