Roberta May
Smith
May 22, 1935 — Sep 1, 2026
Roberta May Smith went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 1, 2026. She never thought she would make it to 91. In fact, she was pretty sure she was on her deathbed since about 2010. But here in 2026, she has seen it all and found it fit to call it quits. She now joins the family and friends she has so dearly missed.
Born in Mindenmines, MO, Roberta was a devoted Mom, Grandma, GG, Sister, Friend, and Christian. She had many adventures with her family and church groups. She traveled all over the United States with a travel trailer and her late husband, J.R. They even came all the way to Alaska a couple of times. She went to Haiti, Jordan, and Israel with her ministry work, as well as several other trips with ministry groups. She remembered all her trips fondly and loved to talk about them.
Roberta loved a good adventure, good food, and good company. In all of her time with the many churches, she accumulated a lifetime supply of good recipes, which she loved to make. She also had a very special ability to always have room for a little dessert. Roberta was always a great host and an avid game player. We will forever cherish memories of her casseroles and game nights. As she got older, she would say, "Don't forget about me." She should know that is not possible. Grandma, you are the UNO in our lives.
Roberta is survived by her grandchildren, Benjamin Crawford, Tawny Benson, Tosha Mittlestadt, Christopher Smith, and Timothy Smith; and her great-grands, Hope and Kiana Colwell, Lucas Mittlestadt, Gideon and Eleanor Benson, and Ava Crawford. She is also survived by her brother, Walter Clanton; and numerous other relations and friends.
Roberta was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Jessie Clanton and baby brothers; her husband, J.R. Smith; children, Janet Smith, Debbie Linn, and Jim Smith; grandson, Eric Crawford; and brother, Doyle Dingman.
There will be a funeral service at Mercer-Adams Chapel, 3925 N Asbury Avenue, Bethany, Oklahoma, at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, September 9, 2026. Roberta will be interred at Bethany Cemetery alongside her husband, J.R. Smith, following the service.
