Obituary

Robert H. (Bob) Vaughn, 82, of Oklahoma City, was born May 14, 1927 in Bristow, OK. He died January 31, 2010 after a brief illness. In 1932, the family moved to Oklahoma City and opened a grocery store. Bobs first job was delivering groceries in a little red wagon when he was 5 years old. Bob lettered in 4 sports while attending Central High School. He accepted a football scholarship to OU and attended spring practice, returning to graduate with his class of 1945. The US Army drafted Bob in June where he served as a Buck Sergeant in the 252nd Combat Engineering Corp, rebuilding Germany until his discharge in November, 1946. In January, 1947, Bob entered the school of Engineering at Oklahoma A&M College, now Oklahoma State University. During the 1948 oil boom, Bob and his mother built houses in Odessa, Texas. Bob and Georgia Garrett had their first date on her birthday, August 27, 1949. They first met in Kindergarten and were in the same class through 12th grade at Lincoln Elementary, Webster Jr. High, and Central High School. They married June 9, 1950, at First Christian Church, where Bob became a member when he was 7 years old. Bob served the church in many capacities, most notably as Chairman of the Board of Elders and Chairman of the Board of Deacons in the early 1990s. In 1953, Oklahoma City Tractor, now known as OCT Equipment, was founded by Bob. He worked by day and studied law by night at Oklahoma City University Law School, graduating in 1956. He closed his law practice at Garrett & Co. in 1972 to become the CEO of OCT Equipment. Bob coached football for the Downtown Optimist Club, receiving the 1956 Outstanding Boys Work Award. He later joined the Northwest Optimist Club and was recognized for Outstanding Leadership as club President from 1972-73. He also served as Lt. Governor for the Oklahoma District of Optimist International. His greatest enjoyment was working with the youth in athletics. Bob was a quiet, methodical, private person, but beneath that exterior was a very caring man with an active and inquisitive mind as his many accomplishments in life attest. He was dedicated to faith and family and lived his life with three simple rules that he demanded of his family and business: Do what is right. Do the best you can. Treat others the way you expect to be treated. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Homer Vaughn, and Lillie Beatrice Broadland, and his half-sister, Vera Knox. He is survived by his wife, Georgia Vaughn; two daughters and sons-in-law, Vicki & R.C. Morrison and Dee Ann & Kurt Harris, both of Bixby, OK; two sons and daughters-in-law, R. Dale & Mario Vaughn and Gary D. & Julie Vaughn, both of Oklahoma City; six grandchildren: J.P. Morrison, Katie Vaughn, Andrea & Jessica Vaughn, and Britni & Ryan Harris; as well as, a brother, Dr. Daniel L. Vaughn of Las Vegas, NV.
