March 23, 2017, brought to a close 96 years of a life well-lived for Robert "Bob" H. Sharp. He was born February 22, 1921, at his familys home in White City, Kansas, to Horace Montgomery and Inez Mildred (Ruthruff) Sharp. Bob attended and graduated from White City High School in 1940. He joined the Army Air Corps in 1942, where he served as a radio operator in the flight test section. While stationed in Lincoln, Nebraska, Bob met his wife, June C. Munger, and they were married on January 7, 1945. He was discharged at Lowry Field in Denver, Colorado, on December 21, 1945. After his military service, Bob and June moved to Herington, Kansas, where he worked in farm implement, automotive and tire businesses until 1958. He then owned and operated service stations in Herington until 1976 when Bob, June, along with their son, Steve, and his wife Becky, purchased a motel and service station in Grand Lake, Colorado. They worked in these businesses until 1990, when Bob and June moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. In 1981, Bob posed for a Mountain Man portrait. This event was truly a highlight in his life. He enjoyed playing in several blackjack tournaments in Las Vegas. Throughout the years, Bob volunteered his efforts to many organizations. He was proud that he had a membership in the American Legion for 70 years. Bob was a member of the United Methodist Church in Herington, Calvin Presbyterian Church in Oklahoma City, Kiwanis, Rotary Club, coached American Legion baseball, Herington school board member, Boy Scout leader, and a Frontier Hospice volunteer. Bob was a 32nd degree Mason at the Isis Temple in Salina, Kansas. For several years, Bob also enjoyed being Santa Claus during the Christmas season. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; son, James; his twin brother William "Bill"; and sisters, Betty Jo and Julia. He is survived by his wife, June; son, Steve and his wife, Becky, of Oklahoma City; daughter, Carol Partch and her husband, Ted, of Bird City, Kansas; sister, Hazel Parsons of Vancouver, Washington; a brother, H. Jim Sharp of Manhattan, Kansas; sister-in-law, Jackie Sharp of New Harmony, Indiana; grandchildren: Jill and Drew Paugh of Bird City, Kansas; Randy and Katie Partch of Benkelman, Nebraska; Kevin and Kayte Partch of Lincoln, Nebraska; four great-grandchildren: Cooper, Barrett, Kendall, and Oakley. Bob is also survived by many nieces and nephews, with whom he enjoyed spending time.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 22nd, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel at St. Ann Retirement Center, 7501 West Britton Road, Oklahoma City, OK 73132.
