Robert Mendez, Sr., age 88, of Oklahoma City, went into the arms of the Heavenly Father, at Touchmark Coffee Creek in Edmond, Oklahoma on Tuesday January 5, 2021. Robert was born on November 15, 1932 in Beloit, Wisconsin to the late Hirene T. and Maria (Zuniga) Mendez. Robert was raised in the Catholic faith and was a lifelong believer. Robert was a decorated Veteran of the United States Air Force having served in the Korean War and receiving the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He spent much of his working career with the Federal Aviation Administration at the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center in Oklahoma City. Robert loved working with and talking about airplanes throughout his life. He was also a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan.
Robert is survived by his wife, Mary Mendez; his children, Robert (Kathy) Mendez II, Rick (Tracy) Mendez, Theresa Mendez Booze, and Mike Mendez; his grandchildren, Jessica (Kevin) Helm, Kristina (Jason) Egnor, Trevar Woods, Dylan Woods, Trevor Mendez and Grace Booze; and his great-grandchildren, Hannah, Trinity, Alivia, Kennamarie, Timothy Daniel, Brody and Jasi Jo.
Robert was preceded in death by his siblings, Eloisa "Becky" Van Eperen, Caroline Mendez, Alfonso Mendez, Angeline Wall, Ralph Mendez; and his grandsons, Daniel and Timothy.
A private service will be arranged by Mercer-Adams Funeral Service in Bethany, Oklahoma with interment at Spring Creek Memorial Cemetery in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
