Robert (Bob) W. Kennedy was born at home in New Haven, CT on July 24, 1931 to Hugh A. and Julia Van der Maelen Kennedy and entered eternity with his Lord and Savior early Wednesday, November 22, 2017. He met the love of his life, Rita M. Schmidt, and married her on September 12, 1953 in Wellington, KS. Bob and Rita had three children, Paul Kennedy (Janice) of Whitmore Lake, MI, Timothy and Teresa.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, brother, and son, Tim.
From boyhood Bob and his brother, Hugh, played baseball and were diehard New York Mets fans. Bob was also a storyteller and a joker. One of his favorite childhood stories was jumping from the roof into the door high snow in Connecticut.
After graduating high school Bobs next step in his destiny was to enlist in the U.S. Air Force. After completing basic training, he was assigned to McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita, Kansas. It was there he met his future bride, Rita Marie Schmidt, "the most beautiful girl he ever met." Shortly after marrying Rita he was assigned to Japan for 18 months to serve in the finance department. He told of traveling for days on a ship to arrive at his duty station. Returning to the United States Bob was stationed at Altus Air Force base. After being honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1956, Bob and Rita moved to Wichita, Kansas.
Bob was employed by Union National Bank in Wichita from 1956 to 1967. The Kennedy family moved to Oklahoma City where Bob was employed by Guaranty Bank and Trust from 1967 to 1982. In 1982 Bob and others established Brookwood National Bank, where he served as President and CEO. After several years at Brookwood, Bob retired. During his business career Bob was known as a man of integrity by many.
In his retirement Bob and Rita would travel often to Michigan to visit family and to Phoenix, Arizona, to visit their close friends Jess and Jackie Bonura.
In his last years Bob and Rita lived at Concordia Life Care Community in Oklahoma City. Bob made many friends at Concordia including, Jack McKaig, who has the same keen interest in college football as Bob.
Bob was also an influence in the lives of his grandchildren as a teacher, mentor, and example to them all.
Bob will be missed by many especially his wife Rita; son, Paul; daughter, Teresa; 7 grandchildren; Kimberly (Tom), Matthew (Chris), Stephanie (Tom), Benjamin (Christine) Shawn (Ginel) Adam, Christian (Chris), and 11 great-grandchildren; Brooke, Katelyn, Amanda, Hannah, Tiffany, Madeline, Clarice, Dylan, Emily, Noah, James.
