Obituary

Robert Godwin (Bob) went to join his heavenly father at 8:00pm Monday, April 30, 2012 after suffering a massive heart attack in his home in Jones, OK. Bob Godwin was born on February 1, 1947 to Dorothy Beasley Godwin and Edward Godwin in Oklahoma City, OK. He attended Putnam City Schools for his entire education being a proud member of the Twelve Year Club. While still in high school, Bob joined the Navy Reserves and spent two years aboard an ammunition ship in the Vietnam era. After his stint in the active Navy, he remained in the reserves or on active duty for the next 20 years. He did pursue a college degree from Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC. After graduation, he began a teaching career. After three years of teaching, he discovered that his passion was not in the classroom but rather a political activist. He did, however, discover a wife. He married Etta Skeen in 1976 after meeting at Western Oaks Baptist Academy. He loved to travel and throughout their marriage Etta always said he had Gypsy blood and because of this all four children were born in four different states. Bob was an active member of OCPAC and the Republican Men's Club, attending every week the clubs met. Bob was a prolific reader and writer, feeling that everyone had a right to his opinion ~ just ask him. Bob Godwin was such the social critter. He never met a stranger. He was a man always with a cause and he attacked that cause with all his being. He was a devout Christian, loving his Lord as much as he loved his wife and family--with all his heart. He always sought the best for them. He was preceded in death by his mother and father and great-nephew, Dustin Lyles. He is survived by his wife, Etta Godwin; sons, Nathan, Roger, Scott and daughter, Esther Harper, along with their spouses Megan, Samantha and Aaron; his three grandchildren, Cole, Kayla, Izabelle, and future grandchild, baby Godwin. Also surviving are his brothers and sisters, Ken, Dallie, Tim, Eddie, Doris and Lora along with their spouses and children. He will be missed by his family and friends. Bob is and forever will be a loving Husband, Father, Dixie Granddad, Brother, Uncle, and Friend. A true, Godly man, Dixie man, patriot, and truly a man of his convictions. Church Service Friday, May 4, 2012 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM Heritage Baptist Church 14317 N. Council Oklahoma City, OK
