Obituary

Robert William Clark was born on May 18, 1938 to William and Nezzie Clark in Wyandotte, Michigan. Roberts earthly journey came to an end on May 15, 2021 when he went to be with his Lord and Savior. His journey continues in eternity with those who have gone before. He rejoices with those who also gave their lives to our Lord Jesus Christ. While we may weep at his passing from this earth, we rejoice in knowing that we will see him again one day. Robert was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Elizabeth; sisters, Mary and Martha; sister-in-law, Verna; nieces, Kathy and Debbie; nephews, David, Larry and Allen. He is survived by his wife, Sharon; sons, Micky (Heidi) Clark and Ryan (Rhonda) Clark; daughters, Kelsey (Andrew) Merrill and Sasha Moreland; grandchildren, Rebecca, Rylan and Renae Clark and Isabelle Merrill; sister, Naomi (Ted) Thoenes; brother, Paul (Nan) Clark; and many nephews and nieces. Isaiah 40:28-31: "Do you not know Have you not heard The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and His understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint." Robert truly believed that the Lord was his strength, and he was unwavering in that belief. In his 41 years as a pastor, he gave his all to live out this belief and instill this unwavering strength of God in those that he ministered to. Robert grew up living in many different locations. He knew the Lord from a young age, but like a lot of young men and women, he questioned his faith and, in the beginning, took his own path. During a service in a little church in Oak Creek, Colorado, Robert once again found his faith as he felt the Holy Spirit calling him. That day he rededicated his life to the Lord and decided to answer the call to the ministry. Robert attended Bible school in Oklahoma City at Southwestern Bible College with the intent of starting his ministry. He would also meet his future wife Elizabeth, while attending Southwestern. Dad used to joke that he was at school to become a minister and that Liz was there to get her MRS degree. As it happened, they both found what they were looking for! Robert and Liz were married on December 21, 1962. They started their ministry together in Las Cruces, New Mexico where they pastored their first church. They were only there about 3 years, but it made a lasting impression on both of them as they became lifelong friends with fellow ministers Lavon and Sammi Thompson. They moved to Denver, Colorado to become the pastors of Evans Avenue Pentecostal Holiness Church. During their time there, they had two sons, Remick "Micky" and Ryan. LuAnn, Roberts niece, also came to live with them. Robert said that her two-week visit turned into 7 years and she became an "adopted" daughter into his family. They also gained many spiritual sons and daughters during their 12 years at Evans Avenue. Robert had a special connection with the youth of this church. God blessed his ministry as he spoke life into many a young person who attended this church and through the conference as he worked with the youth all across the state. Robert and Liz finished out their ministry in Springfield, Colorado. They would pastor there for 26 years until Robert retired from the ministry in May of 2004. While in Springfield, they built many more relationships and touched many more lives that were blessed by their ministry. During this time, they also taught their sons that God was their provider and watched as they both left home to pursue their own lives. During his ministry, not only did he pastor 3 different churches, but he was also very involved in conference work. Robert served on the conference board four years as a board member and four years as the Assistant Superintendent of the Rocky Mountain Conference. He was also very active in helping with church camp and the Bible Quiz program. After retiring, Robert and Liz moved to Oak Creek, Colorado. In 2006, Robert suffered two very big losses in his life. His mother passed away in April and Liz passed away in November after a short battle with cancer. This would prove to be a very tough time for Robert. Even though he was tired and weary, he drew upon his faith and God was faithful to him by fulfilling his promise from Isaiah 40. Shortly after Lizs death, Robert moved back to Springfield. For the next year or so, he travelled around and visited with many. During this time, he "discovered" the new love of his life. In August of 2008, Robert married Sharon McCuistion, starting a new chapter in his life as the husband to Sharon and a father to Kelsey and Sasha. In over 12 years of marriage to Sharon, he found a new joy that made his life once again complete. Robert would brag every day about how he was married to the most gorgeous woman and he never went one day without telling her that he loved her. Robert was a faithful and loving husband not only once, but twice in his life. Robert leaves a very strong legacy of faith and love in a Savior that can save anyone who believes in Him. His biggest passion was that all would come to faith in Jesus and would learn to love as Jesus did. He lived this out every day of his life. Robert was a great example of someone who walked the life that he preached to others. Those who knew Robert saw the life of a true follower of Jesus, because he lived out what he was called to do and that is to love others as Christ loved us.
