Obituary

Robert Walter Blakeburn died peacefully at home on October 3, 2010. He was born in Oklahoma City on August 17, 1923. Bob served in the Navy as a Torpedoman on a destroyer, the USS Chauncey, during WWII. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1950 with a degree in Physics, and was a member of Sigma Pi Sigma, The National Physics Honor Society, and the Institute of the Aerospace Scientists. He later became a Registered Professional Engineer. As an aerospace engineer at Tinker AFB, he was given the Citation of Honor by the Air Force Association for contributing significantly, both technically and economically, to Air Force operations. He was acknowledged as a principal contributor to maintaining the structural integrity of the B-52 and KC-135 strategic forces. Bob enjoyed sailing, scuba diving, mountain hiking, traveling, philosophy, and especially his family. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Willie; daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Wayne Felts; son Joseph Robert Blakeburn; granddaughter and husband, Nicole and Tim Andrews; and grandchildren Lauran and Brandon Blakeburn. He is also survived by his brother, the Rev. Roy E. Blakeburn. Bob will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
