Rita Mae (Weiland) Alderson passed away peacefully on March 2nd, 2023 at Northhaven Place in Oklahoma City. She was born on June 16th, 1923 to John and Grace (Bigger) Weiland in Neosho Falls, Kansas. Rita grew up in Neosho Falls, where she graduated from Pumpkin Kollege.
On August 19th, 1945 she married Clinton Alderson in Iola, Kansas. Together they had two children, C.A. and Connie. They made their home in Iola, Kansas for several years before they were transferred to Joplin, Missouri. They later moved to Omaha, Nebraska and finally settled in Oklahoma City in 1966.
Rita loved her family more than anything and devoted her life to them. She was an incredible daughter, sister, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She cherished her memories of babysitting her grandkids when they were little and was an integral influence in their lives. She enjoyed music, dancing, and hosting dinners for her friends. Rita was a woman of various talents. She was an expert seamstress and made many wonderful creations over the years, including several spectacular dresses. She had a knack for refinishing and reupholstering furniture. Additionally, she had an unparalleled talent and passion for gardening, which she passed on to her daughter and they frequently enjoyed together. She was even awarded yard of the month.
She was preceded in death by her father, John Weiland; her mother, Grace Weiland; her husband, Clinton Alderson; her daughter, Connie Jones; her sisters, Elora OHara, Florence Henderson, Eva Rawlings, Milda Danielson, and Maxine Smith; and her brothers, Chance Weiland, Al Weiland, Clifford (Chig) Weiland, Curtis Weiland, Kenneth Weiland, and Les Weiland.
Rita is survived by her son, C.A. Alderson and wife Sheila of Oklahoma City; her grandchildren, Lance Jones and wife Chandler of Denison, Texas, Nicole Hawkins and husband Brian of Denison, Texas, Hunterlyn Alderson of Oklahoma City, and Bradley Rumenapp and wife Kelsey of Oklahoma City; great-grandchildren, Roni Douda of Stephenville, Texas, Rhett Douda of Denison, Texas; step great-grandchildren, Dean Rumenapp and Millie Mae Rumenapp, of Oklahoma City, Jordan and Abbie-Jo Shrum of Oklahoma City, Marisa Hawkins of Blue Ridge, Texas, and Faith Hawkins of Bonham, Texas; and a niece, Tyra ORourke of Nashua, NH; along with several other nieces and nephews.
Visitation with family present will be Wednesday, March 15, 6:00-8:00pm at Mercer-Adams Funeral Service.
Graveside services will be Thursday, March 16, 2:00pm at Yates Center Cemetery, Yates Center, Kansas.
