Richard was born September 30, 1934. He was the son of William and Mary Thornton of Mishawaka, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother, Edith, and brothers, William Thornton and Jerry Thornton. He is survived by his wife, Joyce, of the home; sons, Richard Thornton, Patrick Thornton and wife Rhonda; step-sons, Stephen Cox, David Cox and wife Aimee; daughters, Mickey Gaither, Tracy Fink and husband Walter, Kathleen Willard and husband Randy, Amy Riggan and husband Sean; grandsons, Ritchie Thornton, Wally Fink and wife Megan, Liam Fink, Kyle Smith, Tyler Gaither, Cameron and Nathan Cox; granddaughters, Theresa, Kelly Thornton, Samantha Walker and husband Erick, Kalliegh Schroeder and husband Tyler, Brandi Brown, Allison Riggan, Cassie Thornton, Ashleigh, Makailah and Kaitlyn Cox; great grandchildren, Tyce, Trevor, Kenzie, Macen, Emma, Brendon and Aidan; brothers, Ed Thornton and wife Susan Leonard, Robert Thornton and wife Robbye; sister, Patt Dick and husband Jim; and many nieces and nephews. Richard retired from the Air Force in December, 1977. He retired from Integris Southwest Medical Center where he was in security and drove shuttle for the employees.
