Richard Elliott Schmitt, 57, of Bethany, Oklahoma went to his heavenly home on August 24, 2023. He was born on September 8, 1965 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was raised by his parents, Duane and Jane Schmitt, primarily in Bethany, Oklahoma. He graduated from Putnam City West in 1983 and went on to serve 2 years in the Army, stationed in Germany. He then attended Rose State Community College before earning a position on the Oklahoma City Fire Department in 1993. He served the city for 25 years as a lieutenant including responding to the Oklahoma City Murrah bombing in 1995. He loved the brotherhood of the fire department.
Richard was married to Marianne Walraven Dunn for 13 years. Together they have 3 children, Brittany, Bryton, and Brixton. He was incredibly proud of his 3 kids and loved to attend and support their sporting functions. He loved dirt bikes, classic rock, and story telling. His favorite place to be was on the water at Lake Tenkiller barefoot skiing, cliff jumping, riding seadoos, and teaching his kids to do the same. He loved helping people. His faith in Jesus was as big as his personality.
He is preceded in death by his father, Duane Schmitt. He is survived by his mother, Jane Schmitt Boer and birth mother, Kate Keating; children, Brittany McGinnis married to Mitchell McGinnis, Bryton Schmitt married to Riley Schmitt, Brixton Schmitt engaged to Gracie Wimmer; grandchildren, Ryan, Brecken, and Barrett McGinnis; sister, Beverly Hood married to Mike Hood; half brother, John Keeler married to Elizabeth Keeler; half sister, Hannah Vaughn married to Clanton Vaughn; half sister, Margaret McKay married to Steve McKay; half brother, David Williams married to Kim Williams; and many nieces and nephews.
