Obituary

Richard A. "Dick" Parker, 84, passed away Tuesday, September 8, 2015. He was born October 30, 1930 at the Lying-In Hospital, University of Chicago, IL to Raymond A. Parker and Jane E. (Jones) Parker. He graduated from Chicago Vocational High School and extended his training, earning his A&P Licenses. He married Constance J. Leonard in 1952. They had three children, Phyllis, Rick, and Roger. Throughout their life, Dick and Connie taught their children to be moral, punctual, and to value family. Dick was employed as an aircraft mechanic at Capital Airlines, which became United Airlines, from 1961 to 1968. In 1968 he accepted a position with the Federal Government which brought him and the family to Oklahoma, working at the F.A.A. Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center. His work ethic eventually led him to the management of Occupational Safety in the Workplace (OSWA) for the Mike Monroney center and as a consultant to aeronautical centers in other places such as Tokyo, Germany, and Hawaii. He retired in 1993. Dick served 2 years in the United States Marine Corp, serving in California and Hawaii during the Korean War, and 6 years on inactive duty. His love for his country and the Marine Corps kept him active in the American Legion Post #12. He truly believed in being "Always Faithful." A longtime member of Ridgecrest United Methodist Church, Dick served in many capacities. He was also a much loved Boy Scout leader and member of Toastmasters, with a flair for Spontaneous Speaking. During his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his "favorite wife", Connie. They traveled far and wide for fun and to investigate their genealogical history. He loved to answer questions about aircraft as he volunteered at the Oklahoma City Science Museum. He also volunteered with Mobile Meals, the Oklahoma City Library and RSVP. Dick was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears. Dick is survived by his wife, Connie, of 63 years; his daughter, Phyllis Parker-Bertun and husband Kris Bertun of McKinney, Texas; his sons, Richard Parker and wife Jane Parker of McAlester, Oklahoma, Roger Parker and wife Dana Parker, of Laverne, Oklahoma; 5 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and 6 adopted great-grandchildren. Viewing will be Friday, 9am-9pm, with family present from 6-8pm at Mercer-Adams.
