Reverend Marvin Henry Hall, died Friday, May 27, 2011 at his home in Oklahoma City surrounded by his wife and family.
Marvin was born March 30, 1919 in Beckham County, Oklahoma, and was the eldest child of George and Maude Hall. He grew up in western Oklahoma farming cotton and milking cows. He graduated from Berlin High School and Sayre Junior College, and attended Oklahoma Baptist University. He was also bestowed an honorary Doctorate of Divinity from Conroe College in Texas.
He married Lois Moore, a teacher at Berlin, on May 25, 1940. They lived in Cheyenne where he worked as a government surveyor. He worked in the grocery business in Sayre, farmed around Berlin, and owned grocery stores in Berlin and Dill City. Their first two sons, Marvin H. (M.H.) Jr. and Nathan (Sandy), were born during this time.
Marvin answered the call to the gospel ministry in 1948. His first pastorate was at Lone Oak Baptist Church (near Sayre) where his ministry flourished. As the church grew, summer worship and revival services were held in an outdoor grape arbor. He also led the congregation in building a new Educational Building. Their daughter, Vivian, was born during this period.
In 1952 the family of five moved to Immanuel Baptist Church in Norman. Again, the Lord blessed his ministry with a growing church membership and a new Educational Building. Their fourth child, Randy, was born while in Norman.
In 1957, Reverend Hall and his family moved to Trinity Baptist Church in Shawnee. During this pastorate, the church grew in membership and paid off all its debts. In 1960, he and the family moved to Trinity Baptist Church in Bartlesville, where the church grew, a new Educational Building was built, and all church debts were paid.
In 1965, Reverend Hall joined the Baptist Foundation of Oklahoma in Oklahoma City. His responsibilities at the Foundation included assisting Baptist families across the state with their estate planning, management of Baptist owned land and mineral properties, and the administration of church building loans. Additionally, he managed Oklahoma Baptist University scholarship funds and other student financial aid programs. He was also blessed to be asked to preach at churches all across Oklahoma and serve as interim pastor of several churches.
Reverend Hall retired from the Foundation in 1983 but continued to work as a part-time consultant. He liked to remind everyone that it took a computer and three good men to replace him. In 1997, he fully retired from Foundation work. He was a member of Portland Avenue Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher.
Marvin and Lois loved to travel and drove their motor home across the country several times. They have traveled to 48 states and several foreign countries. He loved to fish, would talk to anyone and everyone, and enjoyed visiting with friends and family.
Marvin and Lois established the Annie Lodoskie Moore Scholarship in her mothers memory. This fund provides scholarships each year to students at Oklahoma Baptist University. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to this scholarship fund at OBU in care of the Baptist Foundation of Oklahoma, 3800 N. May, Oklahoma City, OK, 73112.
Reverend Hall is survived by his wife of 71 years, Lois; four children: Marvin (M.H.) and wife Arlene, Sandy and wife Diane, Vivian and husband Lee, Randy and wife Trina; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Johnnie Mae, and a host of cousins and friends.
