Obituary

Rev. Harold Blankenship, 91, of Oklahoma City, passed away April 29, 2020. He was born July 1, 1928, to Lee Harold and Christine Blankenship in Troy, NY where his father and uncle were employed to build a bridge. A year later they moved to Denison, TX. He graduated from Denison High School in 1945. He received a Bachelor of Theology degree from Bethany-Peniel College, now Southern Nazarene University, in 1949 and served as pastor of 8 churches in Oklahoma, Texas, and Ohio for a total of 46 years. Harold loved to help children and youth. In Mount Pleasant, TX he started Pony League Baseball for the entire community while starting and pastoring the Church of the Nazarene in that city. In Northwest Oklahoma, he directed childrens and youth camps and served as the District President of Nazarene Young Peoples Society. After moving to Southeast Oklahoma, he directed childrens and youth camps and served as the Chairman of the District Sunday School Board. He played a key role in the establishment of Camp Bond in Tishomingo, OK. He served as a trustee of Nazarene Bible College in Colorado Springs. After retiring, he volunteered daily at OKC Compassion located at 10th and Penn Ave. Ark Noel, former district superintendent, called Harold the Ever Ready Bunny because he kept going, going, going. Harold enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Stephen Blankenship, 2 brothers, James Blankenship and Jake Blankenship, 2 sisters, Betty Lynch and Rosemary Sullivan, and a daughter-in-law, Karen Blankenship. He is survived by his wife, Doris Blankenship; his daughters, Janice (Gary) Dickerson, Annette (Stuart) Rustin; a son, Mark Blankenship; a daughter-in-law, Pamela Blankenship; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Carolyn McNeil; and many nieces and nephews and their families. Funeral arrangements are private because of the present pandemic. Viewing will be at Mercer-Adams Funeral Home on Monday, May 4, 9am-7pm. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Summer Childrens Camp Scholarships at the Choctaw Church of the Nazarene, PO Box 887, Choctaw, OK 73020 or to Camp Bond, c/o Oklahoma District Church of the Nazarene, 3807 N.
