Obituary

Rebecca "Becky" Kathleen (Miller) Vaughan was born on March 15, 1940, in Dallas, TX. She was second in a line of six children born to Joe and Aileen (Cornelison) Miller. Becky passed away in her home on June 25, 2023, surrounded by her family after a brief battle with cancer. Becky spent her early years in Dallas before the family moved to Bethany, Oklahoma where she would join her older sister at Bethany Nazarene College (BNC - now Southern Nazarene University). While at college, she met the love of her life and future husband, Doug, in an anatomy class. They were married on May 31, 1960, the day after Doug graduated. They spent their honeymoon in Colorado Springs, CO and continued on to Denver. Doug obtained a job working in the Denver School System and their first daughter, Cindy, was born there in Nov. 1961. The family moved back to Oklahoma City and a couple of years later, her youngest daughter, Nita, was born in Nov. 1964. Once both her girls were in school, Becky returned to BNC and finished her degree and received her teaching certificate. She went on to start her teaching career in the Bethany Public School System where she taught English and Spanish for several years. She later taught for OKC Public Schools before leaving her teaching career. She always enjoyed spending time reading, playing dominos and card games with family, working in her flower garden, traveling to visit family and doing crossword puzzles. She was a skilled seamstress who enjoyed making clothes for her daughters and their Barbies. She continued to make clothes for the dolls and Barbies of her granddaughter, and her great-granddaughters. In the last few years, she found joy in making dresses with matching dolls for little girls in Eswatini. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed baking desserts and trying out new recipes she found on the internet. She was also a very meticulous housekeeper and kept everything in its place. If you set a glass down and went into another room, it may not be there when you returned. She loved listening to and singing old hymns as well as listening to some old-time gospel preaching. Becky spent almost every day in devotional time with her husband where they would end their time in prayer over the members of their family. She had a strong faith in God and didn't veer from her belief. She lived out her faith in front of her family and took every opportunity to encourage them in theirs. Becky and Doug recently celebrated their 63rd anniversary together, realizing it would be their last. Becky was a loving and devoted wife, daughter, mother, mamaw and great-mamaw. She cherished each moment with her family and loved each one deeply. Becky was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Aileen Miller; and sister, Angie. She was survived by her loving husband, James Douglas "Doug" Vaughan; daughters, Cindy Mitchell and husband, Gil of Chesapeake, VA., and Nita Smith of Oklahoma City, OK; grandchildren, Bret Mitchell and wife Sarah of Chesapeake, VA, Alanna Streeter and husband, Shelby of Medford, NJ, Braden Smith and Riley Smith both of Oklahoma City, OK; great-grandchildren, Natalie, Dawson and Penelope James; brothers and sisters, James Miller & wife Pam of Hope Mills, NC, Susan Miller, Janis Miller and Paul Miller all of Oklahoma City, OK; and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
