Reba Evelyn Smyers Hicks, age 92, loving mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, passed away in the early hours of May 23rd at The Mansion at Waterford in Oklahoma City, OK. She was welcomed into Heaven by a multitude of family and friends who have gone before her. She was born on June 30, 1930 to Joseph Allen Smyers and Hilda Bernice Lauderdale in Oklahoma City, OK.
Rebas daddy was in the oil business, so they moved around. Reba started school in Oklahoma City. She also attended school in Maud, OK, Hawkins, TX, and Maysville, OK, where she graduated in May 1949. After graduation she moved to Oklahoma City and attended Hill Business School. While in Oklahoma City she worked for Oklahoma Lung Association. Later, she also worked for Memorial Hospital in Ardmore, OK. She then moved back to Oklahoma City working for the Department of Human Services, retiring in 1995. In her retirement years, she worked for the election board.
Reba loved her family, and she made friends everywhere she went. She also enjoyed sewing, crafts, reading, crossword puzzles, and genealogy. Her granddaughters, Stephanie and Robyn were her pride and joy. When they came to visit, they would spend hours playing games. Later in life the 3 sisters, Patricia, Margaret, and Reba would get together and play games and reminisce.
Reba has been a member of Southern Hills Baptist Church for the past 40 years.
Reba was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Beverly Floyd; nephew, Andrew Floyd; nieces, Erika Floyd & Angela Floyd.
Reba is survived by her 2 children; daughter, Nancy Fleming of Yukon, OK; son, Jeff Hicks and wife Sarah Hicks of Edmond, OK; granddaughters, Stephanie Grisham and husband Justin Grisham of Yukon, OK; & Robyn Hicks and fianc Jonathan Holly of Oklahoma City, OK. She is also survived by sisters, Patricia Walker of Noble, OK and Margaret Reed of Shawnee, OK, and nieces and nephews, Mark Walker, Rick Walker, Clay Walker, Mike Reed, Joe Reed, Mark Floyd, & Cynthia Floyd.
Those who had the wonderful privilege of knowing and loving Reba will greatly miss her.
The Family would like to thank Valir Hospice & The Mansion at Waterford for the care given to Reba.
A Celebration of Rebas Life will be held Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at 3 oclock in the afternoon at Southern Hills Baptist Church, 8601 S Pennsylvania Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73159. The service will be live streamed for those who cannot attend.
Reba will be laid to rest at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Pauls Valley alongside her Mother and Daddy.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
