Raymond Peyton
York
Jan 27, 1934 — Mar 26, 2024
Raymond Peyton York passed away peacefully on March 26, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 27, 1934, in Carnegie, Oklahoma to Everett York and Era Roxie York (Willis). Raymond was the youngest of 6 and was affectionately given the name of "Peytie Baby" and family continued to call him by that into adulthood.
Raymond grew up in Roff, Oklahoma, where he enjoyed taking care of animals on the family farm and graduated from Roff High School in 1953. He moved to Oklahoma City in 1953 to attend East Central College in Ada and Oklahoma City University and started working at Morris Investment. He was also a member of the National Guard and served from 1953 to 1955.
Raymond met the love of his life, Yvonne Jo Freeman York, in Shawnee, Oklahoma at a dance, where he told his buddies he was going to marry her. They did marry in Shawnee, Oklahoma on July 16, 1954, and shared nearly 70 wonderful years together. Raymond and Yvonne were blessed with three sons, Raymond Edward in 1955, Danny Joe in 1959, and Alan Everett in 1961.
Raymond had several passions - dancing (which he and his lovely wife won several competitions at local events), old cars, attending an annual car show in Shawnee, OK, and his many businesses. In 1992 he bought Morris Investment, and he owned several other businesses in and around Oklahoma City, including 3 TV & Appliance stores, and car dealerships.
Raymond was a passionate follower of Christ and loved sharing his faith with friends and family. He took any opportunity to spend time with loved ones. Any holiday or birthday was reason to come together for food and fellowship. He was well-loved by many.
Raymond was a part of many boards, committees, and groups such as Board of Baptist General Convention, Falls Creek Fund Raising Committee, and was a member of the Exchange Club for 30 years. He was also a distinguished member of the MidAmerica Conference and received many awards for his contributions. He was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church and served in many areas of the church, including as a deacon and as a Sunday school teacher.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Era Roxie; his siblings, Jessie, Dora, Nova, Dorthy, and William; as well as his sons, Raymond and Alan.
He is survived by his wife, Yvonne; son, Danny and his wife Jacki; daughters-in-law, Evelyn and Nikeeta; grandchildren, Joseph, Christian, Laura, Melissa, Raymond Alan, Timothy, Christopher, Ami, Joshua, Kara, Ashley, Zachary; as well as great-grandchildren, David, Daniel, Lydia, Archer, and Joanna; and many other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
