With dignity and courage, Ray fought the battle of cancer for more than two years. August 23, 2014 at 3:34pm, Jesus healed Ray and took him home to Heaven. He was 77 years old. Ray became a Christian on June 30, 2013 and was baptized August 14, 2014. Ray was born to Raymond Howard and Ethel Julia Foster Stevens of Oklahoma City. He attended Oklahoma City schools until 1952, when he moved to Arcadia, OK where he graduated from high school in 1955. Ray began selling groceries for Scrivner Inc. in 1966 after driving a truck for them. He developed a wonderful, lasting relationship with his customers. He was honored with his own territory in Western Oklahoma and became Salesman of District 2 in 1968. Ray received the top sales awards and achieved top dollar salesman many years for Scrivner. His work ethics were above reproach. He remained in the field of institutional foods until he retired in 1995. Ray married Martha Ann Dobbs straight from high school. Two beautiful daughters, Diane and Lisa, were conceived from that marriage. The marriage dissolved and Ray became a single dad with two little girls. Ray was completely devoted and adored his daughters. He was known to stand and iron one dress for an hour. He took them to the barber shop to get a haircut because he couldn't roll their hair in curlers. In 1963, Ray met Darlene and her two children, Rick and Karri. They committed to each other and each other's children as their own and became a family. Ray had a love for golf, his dogs, fishing and sports. His hobby was TV sports, especially OU football. A blessing from God, and Ray's best friend of 7 years, was a little boy named Mika. He has been a daily part of Ray and Darlene's life as they have kept him while his mamma and daddy worked. If you know Mika, you knew Uncle Raymond, and if you knew Uncle Raymond then you know Mika. Ray took great pride in his family. The love of his life was his wife, Darlene, in marriage just short of 51 years. He fathered four children, Julia Diane Mathis of OKC, Lisa Egg and husband Bill of Pagosa Springs, CO, Karri Jamison and husband David of Edmond, and Richard Thomas and wife Pam of OKC. Extended family include Sylvia Foster, Barry Foster and wife Milana and their son, Mika; two nieces, Julie Hancock and Kristy Wilhoit; two nephews, Newt Trammel, Jeffery Joy and wife Jodi; and many lifelong friends. Ray was blessed with 10 wonderful grandchildren. He took such great pride in every one of them and their lives and accomplishments. Jacob, Joshua and Morgan Egg, Shane Mathis, Joel and Gracie Jamison, Melissa Dwiggins and husband Chase, Autum, Jamie and Henry Thomas. He was also blessed with one great-grandchild, Bekah Schmidt Egg. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, his firstborn grandson, Jacob Christian Egg, and his uncle and best friend, Billy Foster. Sincere thanks to Autumn Bridge Hospice, Sharlene Breuninger, RN, and Dr. Waddah Nassar. Family visitation will be Tuesday, 6-8pm at Mercer-Adams. Services for Ray will be Wednesday, August 27, 10:00am at Mercer-Adams Chapel with entombment in Resurrection Mausoleum.
