Obituary

Raymond Neal Fain was born to Jewel and Albert J. Fain on December 28, 1946 in Hanford, California. The family left California in 1949 and moved to Bethany, Oklahoma where Ray spent most of his life. Ray was a member of Bethany First Church of the Nazarene, and a member of the 12 year club at Bethany Public Schools. He was in the Honor Society, Key Club, and a member of the football team and basketball team until injuries forced him to quit. Ray also played the accordion, playing in many concerts and other venues. Ray loved technology and experimented with it in all areas that he could. After High School in 1965, he enrolled in Bethany Nazarene College, now Southern Nazarene University, where he studied accounting. He received his C.P.A. license in 1976. Ray and Jo Beverly Fain were married June 8, 1968. Shortly after their marriage, Ray and Jo Beverly moved to Molalla, Oregon where Ray served as the Operations Officer of the First National Bank of Oregon, Molalla Branch. While in Oregon, Ray studied at Portland State University. In 1976, he and Jo Beverly moved back to Bethany, Oklahoma. Ray worked for 18 years for Sonic Corporation as the Treasurer, then promoted to Chief Financial Officer. In 1995, Ray decided to strike out on a new venture - becoming a Sonic Franchisee. Over the next 18 years, he owned 9 Sonic Drive-Ins in the Central Texas area, a venture he took very seriously and enjoyed daily. Ray was preceded in death by his mother and father, Jewel and Albert Fain and his best friend, Gene Coburn. He is survived by his loving wife, dear friend and companion, Jo Beverly; children who were his pride and joy, son, R. Neal Fain, II and wife, Loran, daughter, Sara Lin Jones and husband Sammy; and five grandchildren who he loved dearly and was excited any time he was able to be with them, Carson and Caedan Fain and Anna, Katy and Lacie Jones. Ray is also survived by one precious and loving sister, Shirley Cruser, whom he cherished and his nephew, Curtis Phillips and grand-nephew, Casey Dean Phillips. Ray has many other aunts, uncles and cousins that will miss his presence at family gatherings. Ray has another set of "Grandchildren" that he also holds dear, not of blood but of love, Amelia, Caroline and Cole Dickey. For the past 7 years, Ray has courageously dealt with the effects of Alzheimer's disease. The past months were especially difficult. The Lord carried him to his forever home in heaven in the early morning hours of Wednesday, April 9, 2014. We will never be the same without our strong, loving husband, Dad and Daddy Ray. You are loved more than you will ever know, Ray. The family is so grateful and thankful to his caregivers at Sodalis Elder Care for Alzheimer's, Waco, Texas. The love, kindness, care and gentleness they give to each of their "family" is indeed a gift to the residents and their families. Thank You will never be adequate - the family of Ray Fain. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you contribute to The Alzheimer's Association. Funeral Service Monday, April 14, 2014 11:00 AM Bethany First Church of the Nazarene 6789 N.W. 39th Expressway Bethany, OK 73008
