Obituary

Raymond O'donell Davis, age 93, of Bethany, OK, passed away at Grace Living Center on Wednesday, March 11, 2015. Raymond was born on April 23, 1921 in Polar, TX to Hollis T. and Iva Davis. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings. He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Ina Belle, and his three daughters, Dorothy Beshers and husband Jim of Edmond, Josie Shipley and husband Jerry of Yukon, and Kathy Davis of Yukon. He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Mike Ballinger and wife Diane of Stuart, Florida, Lynne Shipley Arthur and husband Rob of Yukon, David Ballinger and wife Donna of Edmond, Guy Shipley and wife Michelle of Bethany, and Glenn Ballinger of Edmond. Thirteen great grandchildren and one great, great granddaughter also survive great Granddad. Raymond was drafted into the army in 1944 where he served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the 32nd Division during World War II. During his service he earned The Infantry Combat Badge for service in the Philippines, The Presidential Citation for the 126th Infantry relieving the 25th Division in the Philippines, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with two stars for New Guinea and Luzon. Raymond married Ina Belle Woodfin on November 9, 1940, in Muleshoe, TX. During their 74 years of marriage they found great joy in spending time with family and friends. You would find them at their favorite fishing hole in Colorado each summer, walking his sister Inez's farm in TX, or playing Pinochle on a Saturday night with friends. One of his many joys was to play first base on the church softball team until he was into his 50's. He and Ina Belle spent many hours working in their yard. Many commented on how beautiful the result of their labor was. He supported his family as a machinist at L & S Bearing Company until he retired in 1986 after 41 years. He loved the Lord and faithfully served his church as a deacon and a teacher. It was not unusual to find him reading his bible. His favorite verse was Philippines 4:19. "And my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus." What a wonderful example he was for his daughters and grandchildren! He taught them to have a strong work ethic, to believe in themselves, to love family, and to rely on the lord.
