Raymond was born October 31, 1927 in Kansas City, Missouri to Clarence W. and Emma Matilda Bower. He died May 12, 2021. He served in the US Army Medical Detachment 32nd Infantry Regiment in Korea in 1954. He earned a PhD from Kansas State University.
Raymond was awarded a post doctorate fellowship at the University of Oklahoma Medical School where he met his future wife, Marilyn Patric. His teaching career followed at the University of Arkansas Medical School in Little Rock, Baylor Dental College in Dallas, Texas and concluded at University of Arkansas in Fayetteville when he retired in 1992 as Professor Emeritus of Microbiology.
Following retirement, he served as a medical missionary to two hospitals in the Republic of Cameroon in Africa and as an invited visiting scholar at China Medical University in Shenyang.
Raymond was a gifted poet and published a book of poetry in 2007. He was an active member of Village United Methodist Church.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Donald Paul Bower. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; son, David; and daughter and son-in- law, Blythe Bower and Steve Hallford.
Memorial services will be held Monday, May 17 at 11:00 a.m. at Village United Methodist Church.
