My wife, Ramona Jackson, left us for the last time on Sunday, September 2nd, 2018. She has been leaving us for a long time as she fought the Alzheimers disease.
We were raised in Guthrie; met in high school, senior and sophomore; and married two years later on my Christmas leave. She finished high school and joined me for my time in the Navy.
We returned to Guthrie, where Ramona worked and helped me finish college. She then stayed home to become a full time homemaker and mother to our four girls. When our youngest girls entered Jr. High, she went back to work at jobs in retail, merchandising, and traveling the state microfilming doctor billing records.
We began camping in 1967 and purchased our first motor home in 1975. For 40 years we traveled this great country and met many wonderful people. Together we organized the Happy OK Wanderers in 1990, which became one of the largest motor home clubs in the state and is still going strong.
Ramona was preceded in passing by her mother and dad, Phyllis and Willie McMahan; a younger brother Jerry; and her sister Elfreda Waller this past Christmas day. She is survived by our four daughters and their husbands; Tina and Tom Parker, Ginger and Steve Hampton, Tami and Scott Mason, Toni and Doug James. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, our brother George Waller and myself.
This has been a long journey and there are many who have made the trip with us. Neighbors, friends, workers at Villagio Memory Center, special guys and gals of Valir Hospice, the many other families we met who are also living with this long good bye, and finally my own family who have loved and supported Ramona and I these long years. To all of you, my deepest thank you.
We have lost our feisty red head who loved her kids, grandkids and OU football. Sadness is with us, but sadness like this comes from beautiful memories.
Manuel Jackson
