Obituary

Ramon (Ray) Gary Richards Also known as Cup On May 27, 2021, our dad and Papa completed his earthly race and was welcomed home by his Heavenly Father. Ramon Gary Richards was born on December 20, 1930 to Rueben and Louella Richards in Smithfield Ohio. He then grew up in Ironton, Ohio. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior at an early age and never waivered from his faith, passing it on to his children and grandchildren. Ray served the Church of the Nazarene in many capacities from building new churches, Sunday School teacher, Board member and Choir member. His dedication to the Church of Nazarene and Nazarene higher education guided his actions throughout his entire life. In 1949 he attended Ashland Community College in Ashland Kentucky. In 1951 he enrolled at Olivet Nazarene College and while there, captured the heart of Nadene Ripper. After attending ONC for almost 2 years, he left and served his country in the U.S. Army in the Korean Conflict from 1953 1955. Upon his return, he graduated from ONC and married the love of his life. Ray and Nadene amassed many precious friends over the years living in Illinois, Washington, Tennessee, and Oklahoma. Most of Rays working career was centered around Bethany Nazarene College (SNU) and Trevecca Nazarene College (TNU) as the Chief Financial Officer. Ray enjoyed golfing, especially by RAYS RULES and was known for his quick wit and humor. Always had a joke always. He is survived by his 4 children, Brenda, David, Don and Rhonda, 10 grandchildren and soon to be 13 great-grandchildren. One of Rays favorite quotes is by C.S. Lewis. His family will tell you that Christmas was not complete until Ray read this to his entire family: "Jesus Christ was either the greatest imposter that ever lived or he is all that he says he is."
