Ralph Edgar Hiller, of Bethany, Oklahoma, was born August 19, 1949 at Wesley Hospital in Oklahoma City to Earl D. Hiller and Rosemary Culmer Hiller, and went to live with his Father in Heaven, Wednesday, May 7th, 2014 at age 64. His rambunctious early years were spent in the Putnam City School System and surprising his parents at every turn. He joined the U.S. Army in 1966 and completed two tours in the artillery as a forward observer in Vietnam. He was a member of Wesley UMC where he sang in the choir. He worked at Boecking Machinery and then at Wyoming Machinery Company in Casper Wyoming, followed by Hertz Corporation as a Security Guard. His final employment was as a security guard at Casady School in Oklahoma City. He loved to say that there was always a Hiller at Casady School. He married Paula Gentry Lauffer, the love of his life, on the 25th of February 1995. Ralph was a very special person and role model. Ralph wanted everyone to think he was a tough Vietnam veteran who was very proud of his service, but underneath he was a sensitive man who cried at chick flicks and always cheered for the underdog. He taught Paula to take time for each other and their 19 years of marriage were treated as their honeymoon everyday. He believed in kissing his wife a lot, holding hands everywhere they went and never saying goodbye on the phone without saying, "I love you." Ralph loved life and knew no stranger. He could walk up to anyone and start a conversation. A kidder by nature, you would always feel special when you got poked in the ribs. He always had a story to tell and believed in family, his church and Casady School. He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Hiller, and his brother, Dwain Hiller. He is survived by his mother, Rosemary Hiller; his wife, Paula Hiller; 3 children, Robbie Hiller and his wife Christie of Seattle, Washington, Christyn Byler and husband Josh of Asher, Oklahoma, Justin Lauffer of Bethany, Oklahoma; and 3 grandsons, Christian Hiller, Kuhlin and Gentry Byler; 2 granddaughters, Alicia and Alyx Holmberg; and a special sister, Katie O'Connor of Gore, New Zealand. Viewing will be Friday, 8am-9pm, with family present from 6-8pm at Mercer-Adams. Service will be held at Wesley UMC at 10:00am on Saturday, May 10th, 2014. Graveside service will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, 8701 N.W. Expressway. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution to the Choir Memorial fund at Wesley UMC of Oklahoma City.
