Obituary

Polly Jean (Pound) Benn, passed away on January 11, 2025. She was born in Lamar, MO to Flossie Mae and Oscar Ira Pound on October 19, 1950. There she attended Montrose, a one-room country school (also known as Scratch Gravel) which taught 20 kids of all grade levels, five of which were Polly and her siblings. When she was in 8th grade, her family moved to Bethany, OK where at the time, her eldest brother Ira was attending Bethany Nazarene College. Polly then attended and graduated from Bethany High School in 1968.

After high school, Polly could often be found cruising around Bethany in her 1968 Oldsmobile 442, both on 39th Expressway as well as near the BNC Campus. On one of those occasions, she met the love of her life, a BNC student named Paul Benn, whom she would later describe to one granddaughter as "not too bad looking." They were married on August 28, 1971, and celebrated over 53 years together.

While Polly spent a significant time in her life working both in retail and childcare, her greatest love and passion was expressed in loving and caring for her three children, 10 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. She was a devoted mother, active in her three children's lives, and fully present in all their activities, special events, or in simply being there in their time of need. Her time-filled expression of love would grow even greater when her grandchildren began to arrive. She adored them, supported them, and boasted to everyone about all their talents and accomplishments, whether they were real or sometimes exaggerated.

When healthy, Polly faithfully attended church, ministering and serving others in many areas and in various capacities. Along the way, she made friends with many people. She was loved by all who knew her.

Polly was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Tom Pound; and great-grandson, Frederick Benn.

She is survived by her husband, Paul; her sister, Peggy; and brothers, Ira (Ruthanne), Jack (Linda), Morris (Loretta), and Jerry (Kathy); three children, Shawn (Donna) Benn, Clint (Bridget) Benn, and Kaci (Brian) Ablutz; ten grandchildren, Nathan (Gracie) Benn, Leah (Casey) Benn Miller, Emily (Caleb) Robinson, Julia, Luke, Nick, Parks, Lear, Hixon, and Gabe; and two great-grandchildren, Mabel Jane Robinson and David Wesley Benn.

A funeral service will be held for Polly on Saturday, January 18, at 1:00 pm at Calvary Church of the Nazarene in Bethany, OK. Viewing at the church will begin at 11:30 am.
