Phillip Thomas Cowan was born July 25, 1927 in Seminole, Oklahoma and passed away June 28, 2012. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patty, parents, Jesse and Stella, brother, Duane, and sisters, Nona Cowan and Pat Hall. He is survived by his children: daughter, Sherry Mars, son, Tom Cowan, and daughter, Sandra Neubauer. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Phil was the owner and publisher of the Bethany Tribune-Review newspaper from 1957 until it was sold in 1989. Community achievements include three terms as President of the Bethany Chamber of Commerce, charter member of the Bethany Museum and Historical Society, received in 1980 the Most Useful Citizen Award from the Chamber and received in 1981 the Freedom Foundation of Valley Forge Award. Phil was an active member of the Kiwanis Club from 1958 until his death. He was especially proud of his achievement of 54 years of perfect attendance with that group. He served 2 terms as President of the Warr Acres-Putnam City Kiwanis Club of which he was a charter member. He also served as Lieutenant Governor of the Texas-Oklahoma Kiwanis District in 1996-97. He was a charter member of the Mayflower Congregational Church in Oklahoma City. Graveside services will be at Resurrection Cemetery, 7801 Northwest Expressway, Tuesday July 3 at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Texas-Oklahoma District Kiwanis Foundation or the Children's Miracle Network.
