Paul Wesley Wire was born in a Free Methodist parsonage in Herman, County, Los Angeles, CA on September 8, 1934 to Rev. Bernard and Dorthea Wire. He passed from this life on September 27, 2011. Paul was the 5th of 12 children and was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Carolyn Wire, Bernadean Greer, June Wiens, and a great-granddaughter, Jocelyn Knighton. When Paul was only three weeks old, his family moved to Cassville, MO where his Father pastored the Free Methodist Church before moving to Ozark, AR to minister there. In the early 1940s, Rev. Wire joined the Church of the Nazarene and started a new church in Eureka Springs, AR where Paul began attending elementary school. In 1945, they moved to Harrison, AR and began a new church. He met the love of his life, Teddy Wood. They both graduated from Harrison High School in 1953 and married two days later. In August of that year, they moved to Bethany, OK where they both enrolled in what was then Bethany-Peniel College, now Southern Nazarene University. Paul worked his way through school by working nights at Dunn Printing Company in Oklahoma City, EZ Printing in Warr Acres, OK and later earned a five year pin working at The Oklahoman Publishing Company in Oklahoma City. Since Paul had felt the call to preach as a young child, he was a religion major and graduated from Bethany Nazarene College in May of 1961. In the meantime, he became the father of two beautiful daughters, Brenda and Patty, and a son, Eddie. While still in college, he pastored two churches in the Northwest Oklahoma District of the Church of the Nazarene Sharon and Oakridge, near Guthrie. Upon graduation, he was ordained an Elder in the Church of the Nazarene and moved his family to Fargo, Oklahoma to pastor the Nazarene Church from 1961 to 1964. During his time there, he and members of the church did extensive remodeling in the Sanctuary and built a new parsonage. He and Teddy began to feel a call from God to take a foreign mission assignment. In May of 1964, they accepted a call from the Department of World Missions of the Church of the Nazarene to go as missionaries to Italy. He was Field Superintendent of the work there and pastored the Florence Church. He was on the founding committee of European Nazarene Bible College in Busingen, Germany and recruited several young Italian students to attend there. While in Italy, the Wires became the proud parents of a third baby daughter, Paula. They returned back to Bethany in 1968 and Paul did a year of deputation work traveling to churches and raising money for the work in Italy. He then bought and operated Bethany Rite-Way Printing until 2005 when he retired. During that time, he continued mission work through Work and Witness trips, organizing and taking groups to build church buildings, dormitories, and parsonages in various countries all around the world. Paul was a board member of Bethany First Church of the Nazarene for many years, as well as serving as usher. He was a board member for the Love Link Ministries in its early years, as well as treasurer of the organization. Paul was active in the Bethany Chamber of Commerce, serving as its president one year. He was a member of the Bethany Kiwanis Club, helping deliver hot meals and serving a term as Lt. Governor of Texas-Oklahoma District.
