Obituary

Gordon Pugh of Oklahoma City died Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017. He was born Oct. 2, 1938 in Oklahoma City to Paul and Sarita Pugh. Gordon attended Edgemere Elementary, Taft Junior High, and his first three years of high school were at Classen High School. He then moved, with many of his classmates, to become a member of the first graduating class at Northwest Classen High School during the 1955-56 school year. In high school he was a standout wrestler. Following high school, he attended Oklahoma University, during which time he joined the Oklahoma Air National Guard. He later was accepted into Officer Candidate School with the U.S. Navy, where he served for two years, including duty in Vietnam. He then returned to Oklahoma where he earned his degree from University of Central Oklahoma. He became a teacher, football and wrestling coach in Tucumcari, NM. He later moved to Colorado Springs where he continued teaching and coaching. There he met and married Ann Altmann, and they returned to Oklahoma City. He went to work for the Oklahoma Dept. of Transportation as an appraiser, rising to the position of head of the ODOT Land Acquisition Department. He retired from ODOT. Gordon later retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the Army Reserves. He and Ann had two daughters, Juli and Kim. He was particularly proud that they both were selected to attend Girls State, in two different states; Juli in Oklahoma, and Kim in Colorado. He could always be found attending their many activites. In 2002, he married Gloria Grigsby Pierce, who passed away in 2013. Over the years, Gordon served his church, Grace United Methodist, and was continually helping friends and associates in need or less fortunate than himself. He became an accomplished bowler and bowling instructor, played softball, and volunteered at Lyric Theater. He also owned a part interest in several race horses, and enjoyed watching them run at Remington Park and other tracks. Gordon also enjoyed riding one of his many motorcycles, boating, fishing and spending time with his family at his place at Lake Eufaula. He also enjoyed attending a monthly luncheon with his classmates and alums from several other OKC high schools. Gordon was a proud member of Beta Theta Pi, Past Exalted Ruler of the Elks Club, and a founding member and Past President of the Northwest Classen Alumni Association. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Kyle Pugh Blair.
