Patsy "Pat Pat" Sue (Nicholas) Tapp Died August 10th, 2018. Patsy was born September 13th, 1941, at Wesley Hospital in Oklahoma City to Marjorie Clara (Newberry) Nicholas and Kermit Cris Nicholas. After a brief time in the hospital, she and her twin sister, Shirley Ann, made their way home to Chickasha, OK where they would spend the next 18 years working on the family farm. During her time on the farm, she learned skills such as cooking, baking, canning, gardening and sewing which she used throughout her life and excelled in every area. She was active in 4-H Club where she served as President for 3 years at Pocasset, took piano lessons & participated in many recitals, competed in the Grady County & Oklahoma State Fairs and won many ribbons at both for over 50 years. In 1959, she graduated as Salutatorian from Pocasset High School. In the summer of 1959, Patsy & her sister attended Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha. In the fall of 1959, they headed to OBU in Shawnee. After 3 semesters, they went back to OCW for one semester. In the fall of 1961, Patsy & her sister entered the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Oklahoma City. They graduated with a Diploma in Nursing in June 1964. They passed the state boards in October 1964 and officially became Registered Nurses. After graduation, Patsy briefly worked for a private practice physician and then worked for Hillcrest Osteopathic Hospital in OKC for 10 years. After leaving Hillcrest, she went to work for Deaconess Hospital in OKC where she worked nights in the E.R. for 29 years, mostly as a charge nurse, eventually retiring in August 2003. Throughout her life, Patsy received numerous awards and honors of recognition for various contributions in her nursing career as well as her involvement with Oklahoma Home Community Education including: Deaconess Hospital Tree of Life by the Deaconess Emergency Physicians in recognition for her 29 years of service; Outstanding Performance Award & Professionalism Award for work in the E.R. at Deaconess Hospital; Nurse Exemplar Award; Citation for her long and successful career as a nurse in the E.R. at Deaconess Hospital from the Oklahoma House of Representatives; Citation of Appreciation as Volunteer of the Year as Superintendent in open class canning from Grady County Fair; Volunteer of the Year sponsored by the Oklahoma Association of Fairs & Festivals; and Certificate of Appreciation for 50+ years of service to the Grady County Fair. Patsy also served numerous times as President of Meridian Happy Home ONCE. In her spare time, Patsy enjoyed many different activities and hobbies. Patsy was an excellent seamstress. She first learned to sew while growing up on the farm and continued to hone her skills throughout her life. She made numerous award-winning clothing items for herself, family & friends over the years. In her final 2 years, she made it a goal to make each niece and nephew a quilt and she completed that goal one month before her death. Patsys flowerbeds were always stunning and picturesque. Her green thumb was envied by most of those who knew her. Patsy was an excellent candy maker. Those lucky enough to receive her peanut patties, peanut brittle or toffee know how true that was. Patsy had an intense love of animals which was nurtured and developed by her experience growing up on a farm. She contributed to many animal welfare charities. Over the years, she had numerous dogs including Joker, Rags (who Pat Pat & all of her family were sure was part human & lived to be 20yrs old), Brandy, Dusty, Lilly, Alice & Lily and one golden tabby who was affectionately named "Bless his heart". She also kept most of the birds in Bethany well fed for many years and did so with a glad & joyful heart. She married Ray Tapp in July 1964 & divorced him in February 1972. Lastly, Patsys greatest love and biggest accomplishment was her family. She loved every single person equally (shed whisper in every persons ear "youre my favorite" and everyone felt exactly that way. She loved unconditionally and without judgement. She was extremely passionate about her family and when they had successes, they were her successes and when they hurt, she bore their pain willingly. She was their rock & comforter, a friend, a cheerleader, a confidant & the best secret keeper ever born and of course a second mother to her nieces & nephews. Without Pat Pat, her nieces & nephews no doubt would have seen far fewer movies & State Fairs & sold far less fundraising items. Pat Pat treated her nieces & nephews as if they were her own children. She could not have loved them more. Patsy was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Gary Don Nicholas and brother-in-law, Kenneth Dale Easterling. She is survived by her sister, Shirley Ann Nicholas Easterling of Mustang; sister-in-law, Paulette Nicholas of Chickasha; aunt, Merle Cook of Midwest City; nephew, Chris Easterling & wife Claudia of Addison, TX; niece, Gail Easterling of OKC; niece, Cindy Easterling McKown & husband Josh of Mustang; niece, Donna Nicholas Eckiwaudah & husband Andrew of Cyril; niece, Sherri Nicholas Brokaw & husband Sean of Howard, OH; nephew, John Nicholas & wife Carla of Chickasha, great-nephews & nieces: Levi Garrett, Cassie Easterling McClure & husband Mac, Kylie Sue Easterling & boyfriend Jace Smith, Bethany Easterling, Audrey Easterling, Austin Heath, Breauna McKown, Lillian Eckiwaudah, Presley McKown, Livia Nicholas, Camellia Eckiwaudah, Jackson Nicholas; many cousins including Betty Jean Lytle, Kristina Cook & Norman Neaves; extended family Doyle & Kathy Easterling and their children: Pat Easterling & wife Susie, Michael Easterling, Karen Easterling Garrison & husband Alan and Kelley Easterling Scott; many special friends including Peter Zike; and her beloved dog, Lily.
