Obituary

Patrick E. Gentis, 84, went to be with his loving wife on February 19, 2016 in Oklahoma City, OK. He was born February 3, 1932 in Seminole, OK. He graduated from Seminole High School in 1949. After graduation, he and a number of young men from Seminole heeded the call of the military and joined the service during the Korean War. He served honorably in the United States Navy for a period of four years. Shortly before his discharge from the military he met a beautiful young lady who sang in the choir where he attended church services. He and Mary Lou Phelps were married on May 23, 1954, in Louisburg, North Carolina. From this 49 year union, were born two daughters: Latricia and Lynette. Upon the completion of his military obligation, Pat entered school at Seminole Junior College, transferring to the University of Oklahoma before receiving his degree from East Central University. Immediately after college, Seminole Superintendent H.B. Mitchell hired Pat as a classroom teacher of American History. Following a 2 year stint with the school system, he joined CIBA Pharmaceuticals and remained in their employ for a period of thirty-two years before taking early retirement in 1993. Pat and Mary Lou were charter members of Western Oaks Christian Church where they served faithfully and loyally for many years during the early developmental stages of the church. Pat was a former Chairman of the congregation, Elder, Sunday school teacher, and headed various church committees. Aside from his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other family members, Pat enjoyed the time that he and Mary Lou spent at their lake homes at Fort Gibson Lake and then later at Lake Eufaula where they made many lifetime friends. Pat was known for his quick wit and his friendly demeanor and his list of friends go on and on. He was a fifty-year plus member of the Seminole Masonic Lodge. Pat enjoyed his morning workout and coffee fellowship with his many friends at Pacer Fitness Center where he was a member of the Advisory Board. He also was a frequent volunteer at the food pantry at Skyline Urban Ministry. Pat was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Lou; his mother, Ruby Rundle Robertson; his step-father, Carl Robertson; and numerous other family members. Survivors include daughters, Latricia Pratt and husband John of Blanchard, OK and Lynette Tate of Harrah; granddaughters, Alyssa and Mandy; grandson, Michael; great-grandchildren, Kylee, Mason, Kinsey and Willow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Western Oaks Christian Church or Shriner's Childrens Hospital. Memorial service will be 2:00pm Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at Western Oaks Christian Church.
