Obituary

Patricia Jeanine Kenney Green passed away peacefully on October 29, 2023. Pat was born on November 15, 1930, in Oklahoma City. She graduated from St. Joseph High School where she was active in several clubs and was the homecoming queen. After school, Pat went to work at a local bank. In 1949, she went on a double date that changed her life. Jimmy Green called Pat's date the next day and asked if it would be ok if he asked her out. They were married on February 15, 1950. Pat's original date remained a lifelong friend of both she and Jim.

Jim and Pat raised six children, three sons and three daughters. They followed a few simple rules in their marriage, be true to their faith and to each other, never spend more than they could afford, and be charitable to others. They were not afraid to work hard.

Pat was a stay-at-home mother until their youngest child started school. Her commitment to staying home did not stop her from helping out when the couple wanted to send the children to private school and the budget didn't support it. Pat took in ironing for other people. There was no permanent press in those days, and Pat could produce a crisply starched and ironed shirt in a matter of minutes. She must have ironed a thousand.

In 1966 she went to work for ophthalmologist James Mills. For more than 30 years she was the face that first greeted patients. She handled the scheduling, billing, and managed the office. Also, in keeping with her work ethic and desire to provide additional household support, on the weekends she (and whatever children were available), cleaned the office.

Jim and Pat were very social. When they were raising children on a shoestring, they played bridge, bowled, and went dancing with other couples. When the kids were gone, they traveled all over with friends. A favorite destination was the track. Jim and Pat loved the horse races and Pat had a knack for picking the winners. More than once her winnings paid for their trip or at least a nice dinner for the group. Her gambling prowess continued in her later years with an occasional trip to the casino with the ladies. There she would more likely than not hit a jackpot on the 5-cent slot machine.

Pat was a wiz with a sewing machine. Throughout her life she made clothes, drapes, pillows, and upholstered furniture for her own home, her children's homes, and many others. Later she taught herself to quilt and made beautiful, hand-quilted heirlooms for her children and grandchildren. She was picky about every stitch and the end results showed it.

In 1982, Pat took a painting class and found yet another creative talent. For the next 40 years, she painted – mostly florals, but also landscapes and a few portraits. She sold paintings at local galleries and gifted them to many a friend and family. She was happy to offer a beautiful painting to support fundraising auctions for local charities.

When Jim passed away shortly after their 50th wedding anniversary, Pat continued to paint, sew, and quilt. She traveled and spent time with her friends, family, and her beloved dachshund. Following a stroke in 2020, she was unable to do many of the things she previously enjoyed, but she always maintained a positive attitude, and greeted you with a smile.

Pat is survived by her children: Jerry Green (Randi), Suzan Graber (Ron) of Oklahoma City; Bobby Green (Rhonda) of Germantown, TN; Kelley (Diane) Green of Katy, TX, and Betsy Wearing of Salina, KS; grandchildren: Megan Robinson; JB Robinson; Cindy Robinson (Christopher Smith), Kim Griffin (Brendan), Hailey Hopper (Dan), Brad Bowlby (Kelsey), Jim Bowlby (Nicole), Emily Nash (Coleman), Stephen Green (Jamie), Brian Green (Brittany), Christopher Green (Devon), Logan and Leyton Green; James, Bob and Christopher Wearing; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Jim; daughter, Gloria Robinson; and son-in-law, Ben Wearing.

A funeral Mass will be held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on Thursday, Nov. 2, at 10:00 a.m. The family will receive visitors from 4 to 6 p.m. on Nov. 1 at Mercer Adams Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the Parkinson's Foundation or the Prader-Willi Foundation.
