Obituary

Patricia Anne Smith flew safely into the arms of Jesus at 7:15pm on Sunday, February 26, 2017, from her home in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma surrounded by her family. Patricia Anne (Stafford) Smith was born March 14, 1939, in a house that was converted from a barn in the country near Gainesville, Florida. She was the oldest of 5 children born to Edna Hazel (Mann) Stafford and Daniel Albert Solomon Samuel Stafford. Patricia grew up as a pastors daughter. She graduated from Cado High School in Vivian, Louisiana. Patricia then went to Bethany Nazarene College, where she met and married the love of her life, Jim (James) Wilbur Smith, on August 2, 1960. She graduated from Bethany Nazarene College in 1962 with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. She had the honor of being the very first student to be the secretary for Dean C. Harold Ripper. After Patricia and Jim graduated from Bethany Nazarene College they moved to Gosport, Indiana where they pastored for 2 years and Patricia taught school. Shortly after moving to Gosport, their oldest child, Melody, was born. In July of 1965, Patricia, Jim and their daughter, Melody, moved to South Africa, where Patricia and Jim served as missionaries for the Church of the Nazarene for 38 years. Their younger children, Anne-Mychelle and Daniel, were born in South Africa. As a missionary, Patricia held Womens meetings, Vacation Bible Schools, and taught Sunday school. Even after Patricia was confined to a wheelchair because of her long battle with Multiple Sclerosis, she was the receptionist at Nazarene Theological College in Muldersdrift, Gauteng, South Africa near Johannesburg, where the students and staff loved to be greeted by her beautiful smile. Patricia was preceded in death by her mother, Edna Hazel (Mann) Stafford; her father, Daniel Albert Solomon Samuel Stafford; her brother, Robert Albert Stafford; and her brother-in-law, Jack McElrath. Survivors include her husband, James Smith of Oklahoma City, OK; her sister, Barbara Baker and John of Anderson, Indiana; her brothers, James Stafford and Charol of Houston, TX and David Stafford and Jackie of Bethany, OK; her sister-in-law, Bobbye McElrath of McKinney, TX; her brother-in-law, Paul Dix and Joyce of Tulsa, OK; her sister-in-law, Doris Naramor and Chester of Fayetteville, AR; her daughters, Melody Harding of Bethany, OK and Anne-Mychelle Smith of Gosport, IN; her son, Daniel Smith of Waynesville, OH; her grandsons, Bryan Harding and Emily of Moore, OK and Charles Harding of Bethany, OK; her granddaughters, Cherokee Harding and Tiera Harding of Bethany, OK; her great-grandson, Lucas Anderson of Moore, OK; and many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
