Orlo C. Lewis died on December 30, 2020, after a lengthy illness. He was 82 years old.He was born on August 10, 1938, in Lawton, Oklahoma, to Orlo C. and Lurena Lewis. Orlo and his family moved to Lima, Ohio when he was 14, and lived there until he graduated from high school. During all those years, Orlo had a paper route, and never missed one day making his deliveries. He used his money to buy his own clothes, pay for school expenses, and contribute to his familys household. While at Elidah High School he lettered in football, basketball, and baseball.After graduation his family moved to Lawton, Oklahoma, where Orlo attended two years at Cameron University (Pre-Pharmacy). He earned the Phi Beta Kappa award.He completed college in 1961 after graduating from Southwestern State University Pharmacy School. His majors were biology and chemistry with a minor in music. He later received his Doctor of Pharmacy Degree. Orlo was a pharmacist from age 23 to 73 and received the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy Gold Certificate Award.Orlo's Christian faith and passion for music remained strong his entire life. While working as a pharmacist Orlo also served as minister of music at several churches throughout his adult life. These churches include: First Baptist Church, Weatherford, Oklahoma; Emanuel Baptist Church, Weatherford, Oklahoma; First Baptist Church, Thomas, Oklahoma; First Baptist Church, Chickasha, Oklahoma; and Surrey Hills Baptist Church, Yukon, Oklahoma. Orlo was known for his kindness, his integrity, and his unwavering faith. He had a great love for greyhounds after watching a documentary about greyhound rescue. He would walk three greyhounds at the same time around his neighborhood, and not only became good friends with strangers, he was affectionately known as Mr. Greyhound by people in the area.He cherished his family, and never hesitated in making sacrifices for them.Orlo leaves behind his loving wife, Mary (Streetman); his sons, Brian and Greg (Amber); grandchildren, Caitlin, Emily, Hunter, Claire, Olivia; and one great-granddaughter, Camryn. Also, his beloved greyhound, Cody.A private graveside service will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery on Monday, January 4, 2021.
