Tribute of Oliver Vassar Richardson
It is with heart-felt sadness we share that Oliver "O.V." Vassar Richardson, Jr. passed away Friday, October 14, 2022, at the grand age of eighty-nine.
Oliver was born March 5, 1933, in Oklahoma City, OK and lived there his entire life.
He attended Whittier Elementary and Taft Jr. High. O.V. graduated in 1951 from Classen High School, where he was an active member of the debate team. After graduating, he was always eager to attend and participate in class reunions. He furthered his education attending Oklahoma City University (OCU) and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business and a Master of Arts in Teaching. In addition, he became a Certified Financial Planner.
O.V. had a brief career at Tinker Air Force Base, and then accepted a position with the State of Oklahoma in the department of Oklahoma Employment Security Commission (OESC), which spanned from 1970 until his retirement in 1990. During his career he analyzed and published statistical data on employment trends. After he retired from the State of Oklahoma, he sought a second career working as property and building manager with his sister, Lillian, managing real estate, and rental property.
He had a passion for reading throughout his whole life. Books on history, religion, political topics, health, and genealogy filled his personal library. He was particularly interested and knowledgeable on Civil War history due to his great-great-grandfather serving in the Civil War, and Oliver was a member of the Civil War Roundtable of Oklahoma club. His interests also included family genealogy, playing golf, and enjoying music - especially Benny Goodman and other big band groups.
O.V. had a gentle spirit and kind heart, which he exemplified by loving his family and helping others. His Christian relationship with God and his everlasting faith was deeply rooted in his heart and he faithfully attended church.
The greatest love and joy of his life for 53 years, was his wife, Sharon Richardson. They married in 1970 in Olivet Baptist Church, Oklahoma City, OK. O.V. and Sharon shared the love of travel - particularly Branson, MO and Eureka Springs, AR. The other joys in his life included daughter, Pam Jorski, son-in-law, David Jorski, and grandson, Dr. Austin Jorski.
Joining Oliver in heaven are his mother, Sallie Mae Richardson, father, Oliver Vassar Richardson, Sr, daughter, Pam Jorski, sisters, Helen Jones, Lillian Minter, Betty Stevens, and Sally Brewster.
Oliver Vassar is survived by his wife, Sharon Richardson; son-in-law, David Jorski, Oklahoma City, OK; Dr. Austin Jorski, grandson, Cincinnati, OH; brother-in-law, Paul Bickford and wife Helen, Bella Vista, AR; sister-in-law, Susie Cross and husband Jim, Rocklin, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
