Odis Lee Carter, 66, loving brother, husband, father, and grandfather went to be with the Lord on January 27, 2022. He was born on May 16, 1955 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Charles and Imaletta Carter.
Growing up, Odis attended Bethany Public Schools where he was a proud member of the 12 year club. He then went on to serve in the Unites States Air Force as an Operating Room Specialist from 1974 to 1980 and was stationed at Macdill Air Force Base Florida.
After his discharge from the air force in 1980, Odis and Kathryn remained in Tampa, Florida where Odis worked as a buyer for Chad Supply from 1980 to 1982 and as an aluminum subcontractor for Colwell Aluminum from 1983 to 1985. Odis then returned to his hometown of Bethany, Oklahoma in February 1985. He began his career with the Department of Public Safety in 1985 as a dispatcher for the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. Over the years, he rose in rank working his way to 2nd Lieutenant and flourished in the leadership of the Mobile Command Unit. He then worked as an instructor at the Troop Academy. As part of his role as an instructor, he attended Law Enforcement Polygraph School in Austin, Texas. Upon his completion and accreditation, he then administered polygraph exams as part of the selection process of cadettes for the troop academy as well as for the District Attorneys office in criminal cases. Odis retired in 2010 with 25 years of service. He then began working with his oldest son, Bradley, in his ministry Grounds 4 Compassion. They traveled to Haiti several times where Odis fell in love with the people. Odis had to leave the ministry in 2014 due to the progression of his Parkinsons.
Odis married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Kathryn (Kathy) Page, on July 5, 1976 and enjoyed 45 years of marriage. He is survived by his wife, Kathryn of the home; oldest son, Bradley and wife Amy, and their children Felicite, Cael, Joshua, Evan and Lily; daughter, Vanessa and husband Andrew, and their children Bella and Abigail; and youngest son, Jonathan and wife Kristan, and their children Ethen, Jocelyn (Odiss birthday buddy and best gift of his life), Ryder and Beckett; brother, Steven Carter and wife Vickie; and sisters, Leah Martin and Ellen Carter; brothers-in-law, Lonnie Dunkin, Thomas Walker, and David Walker. He is loved and cherished by his nephews, cousins, and extended family, including close friends he grew up with ~ Robert, Scot, David, Geron, Howard, Burt, Sharon, Paige, LouAnn, and Kathi.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Imaletta Carter; mothers-in-law, Violet Page and Jenny Plasterer; brother-in-law, Jerry Martin; and sister-in-law, Doris Dunkin.
