Norma Jean Parish Kersey passed away in Oklahoma City on October 12, 2012. She was born to Clyde R. and Mary Elizabeth Parish in Taylorville, Illinois on June 16, 1923. She was the youngest of three children. During World War II, she moved to Sault Saint Marie, Michigan, where she met a handsome young Coast Guard sailor from Oklahoma named Coy Kersey. They married on February 11, 1944. After the births of their two sons, they returned to Norman to raise their family. Together, Coy and Norma spent much of their lives supporting their sons' athletic careers at Norman High and the University of Oklahoma. Norma worked as a waitress at many restaurants in Norman including the iconic Town Tavern at Campus Corner. In 1965, she opened the Norman Municipal Hospital Coffee Shop and continued to manage it until her retirement in 1981. In 1983, Norma and Coy retired to Eufaula where they spent 16 years living their dream of fishing, cooking fish and enjoying friends. They returned to Norman in 1999 to be closer to family. Norma moved to Oklahoma City in May, 2011. Norma was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Coy Yates Kersey; her parents; her brother, Clyde Parish; and her sister, Creta Smith. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Velma Price; her sons and their wives, Coy, Jr. and Frances and Rick and Sara, both of Oklahoma City. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, David Kersey of Norman, Kristine Ledgerwood and her husband Shaun of Washington, D.C., Melinda Cooke and her husband Jason of Norman, Melissa Dodson and her husband Charlie of Norman, Mike Kersey and his wife April of Norman, Tracy Kersey of Oklahoma City, Jennifer Reniers of Oklahoma City, Janel Bozarth and her husband James of Oklahoma City, and Melanie Reniers of Oklahoma City; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Norma is also survived by several nieces, nephews and many friends at The Senior Cottages of Norman and Hefner Mansions in Oklahoma City. Services will be held at 2:00pm, Thursday, October 18 at Mercer-Adams Chapel, 3925 N. Asbury, Bethany.
